Always On display - fear of burn-in?!

Hi,

I have the device set to always on display and I love it. Very beautiful and discreet. Don't even need the gesture setting. Always On + buttons. Great and maybe even not so bad for battery life when gestures are off. Besides the problem with no vibration on my device and the brightness setting not working like set I love the device and the display is great. I would love a Fenix with an AMOLED display :D

But I wonder if always on display could result in screen burn-in. The always on display is not moving like with Samsung. And it is bright enough for burn in. What do you guys think?

I got the Venu from amazon who are really cool with returns when a device is defect. Still... Wondering.

  • I downloaded the watchface called "Crystal". With that watchface set to Always on, the time change place in the display every minute.

  • These two also support "always on" (I hope!), and do so by moving the time around on the screen.  You can't have more than 10% of the pixels on, and no pixel can be on longer than 3 minutes.

  • The Venu was designed with screen-longevity in mind, and this includes the Always On mode. To further extend your display life, we recommenced using the Timeout setting.

  • Thx. Crystal seems cool, liked it before. The others too. Always wanna stay with Garmin Preinstalled because of battery life. But this time I will go with Crystal till Garmin solves that. I don't think this is how it is supposed to be, AOD not moving. Also, brightness of AOD is quite high and bright. Not good too and not necessary.

As good as the watch and it's display is, there are quite a few bugs. This, brightness settings not working, and mostly vibration not working ...

  • Jim,

I like your watch face. Bravo. Thanks for what you do. Question for you. I notice that 'Crystal' now says that it is ALWAYS active even if it is NOT the wf being used -- and that this will affect battery. Is that also the case with your WFs? Is this to do with 'always on'. Don't have a VENU yet. Thanks.

  • Info from the manual:

    About the OLED Display

By default, the watch settings are optimized for battery life and performance (Maximizing Battery Life).

Image persistence, or pixel "burn-in," is normal behavior for OLED devices. To extend the display life, you should avoid displaying static images at high brightness levels for long time periods. To minimize burn-in, the VenuTm display turns off after the selected timeout (Display Settings). You can turn your wrist toward your body, double-tap the touchscreen, or press a button to wake the device.

  • So are you saying that the "always on" mode goes off until you move your wrist? Does always on mean only on when you twist your wrist?
