Google assistant suddenly won't connect. Uninstalling Google updates not working. Had been working fine until 2 days ago.

I received a venu 3s for christmas. I initially had some difficulty getting the Google Assistant to work. By uninstalling all Google updates, I could get it to connect. Once it connected the first time, I could update the Google app and it worked like a charm. Suddenly two days ago, Google Assistant stopped working. I have done all the troubleshooting I can come up with. No updates are available.

The watch is a trusted device.

I am able to use the Google Assistant when my screen is locked

I have uninstalled all of the Google updates and tried connecting before updating the app.

I have removed the watch from the Garmin Connect app and completely from my Bluetooth settings.

I have turned the watch off and then re-paired the watch to my phone.

I cannot get Google Assistant to start working again.

I can see the phone screen become active when I trigger the button on my watch, but I never get the triangle with the microphone on my watch face. When I look at the actual Bluetooth connection for the device, I can see the toggle for audio slide over into the on position, then it toggles off then back off then back on again before finally turning off for good and I get the message on the watch face telling me it can't connect to Google assistant.

I noticed that I have three categories for devices in my Bluetooth settings. Speaker, headphones, and other. According to research I've done, other means Bluetooth isn't quite sure what this device is and, it considers Garmin Venu 3s to be in the "Other" category. Is this the problem???

  • Chances are high that your watch is actually already paired with your phone and Garmin Connect just isn't reading the connection. It's giving you error message because it is already paired and cannot pair again and unless you remove it from Bluetooth settings. Part of the problem with the new update is that the calls toggle doesn't stay on so your watch pairs, but Bluetooth will not show that you're actually connected. Garmin Connect has a hard time realizing that the watch is actually paired and connected because of this.

Go into your Bluetooth settings, and unpair the device. Then scan your QR code again and try to re-pair. If you get the pairing code and Garmin connect doesn't want to set up the watch, DO NOT go through the process of rescanning the QR code UNTIL you go back into Bluetooth and remove the watch.  If you immediately try to rescan the QR code and repair without deleting it from Bluetooth each and every time, the pairing will fail because it's actually connected and Garmin Connect just isn't reading it.

It took, no joke, 3 hours for me to get my watch to pair with my phone and have Garmin connect re-add the device into the application. The watch would pair with the phone but Garmin couldn't pick up on the fact it was connected and it wouldn't finish setup.

    Absolutely atrocious.

Before the last update, the calls toggle in Bluetooth settings would stay enabled constantly. Bluetooth settings would show that the watch was connected. When you triggered the Google assistant, the calls toggle would slide off and the audio toggle would become enabled. When you're done with the assistant, the audio toggle goes off and the calls toggle becomes enabled again. Bluetooth shows that the device is connected throughout all of this.

With this new update, the calls toggle does not stay enabled. Once you can get your watch connected, if you try to make a call, then the call toggle slides on and, at least on my phone, that is when Bluetooth will actually recognize that my phone is connected and not just paired to my watch. When that calls toggle is not enabled, my phone does not show that Bluetooth is connected to my watch, only that it is a paired device. However, I can still get text messages and other notifications on my watch, and the watch will sync with Garmin Connect.

  • Any updates? I've got 2 weeks before this watch is returned. This is ridiculous.

  • Update as of 3/6/2025

    Ladies and Gents -

Please see our recently released beta software for a fix addressing this report. If you prefer to not install this beta software, we hope to be rolling out a public software update soon, though I do not have a timeline for this release. If you are still seeing this issue after installing the beta software, please contribute your observations in the appropriate beta bug reports section of the beta forums for your specific device.

Enrolling in Garmin Beta Software Program

  • Beta software is not working.

  • Hi Tracy, any timeframe on the release of the production firmnware hopefully well before the quarterly update cycle?

    Cheers

  • ECG app not available on Beta software. Smh what a disaster this watch is.

  • I enrolled in Beta but the Assistant issue still happens. As well as the no sound for received phone calls reported.

  • Same for me, Beta didn't fix the issue. Plus loss of EKG function... Please fix this appropriately in stable

  • Any updates? Voice assistant and ECG still not working
