venu 2 running dynamics with HRM Pro strap

Hi

since Venu 2 doesnt have running dynamics. Does it work when using an HRM Pro Strap?

Does it show whilst running on the watch or will it at least sync the data from the strap to the activity during app syncing?

regards

Norman

  • Runalyze does see it, I personally use it and it works just fine. Same for VO2 max (you can see it after run on Venu 2, but you can't see it afterwards for some reason) - Runalyze has both its own VO2 and VO2 that it got from Garmin itself. This solves a lot of problems, but that's partly what iritates me so much - that Garmin has the data, it calculates it and then just shoves it somewhere, unseen by a user that uses only Garmin Connect...

And yes, I guess for most people it's not a necessary feature, but again, limiting it like this is just unnecessary.

Also I've heard that with HRM Pro, you can't leave Venu 2 somewhere and just do some activity with the strap, even though the strap should work alone just fine... that's quite a big problem, whatever the running dynamics, but the HR measuring itself just being denied.

  • So it disconnects from the HRM ? Odd ! I suppose it would be useful for soccer/basketball players ?

I didn't know VO2Max disappeared from the Venu after a run, but if it's in Runalyze it's fine. Also Runalyze keeps the Recovery history which is not the case in Garmin Connect Mobile AFIK.

I hope the great GRun field will run smoothly on the Venu 2 as it will come in handy to overcome the silly 4 field limitation.

  • I guess it disconnects as it isn't fully compatible, but who knows. I didn't buy the strap, because it's just a waste of money, buying Garmin's more expensive, yet overall worse strap than Polar H10, if I am not gonna get the additional features. But I've seen some people with Venu complain about it.

Yep, you can only see it right after the run, in the summary part and then it's gone. Runalyze is overall a lifesaver. Without it I would be probably forced to buy FR245/745, but with it I can get around it.

About the GRun, I think I tried that specific and it worked fine. I currently use Garmin Coach, which has different, predefined fields, but will probably take a closer look to it again after completing the training.

  • Good luck with your training !

GRun works great on the Epix and they've released a GRun More now so you can have one dedicated to intervals, on or off the track. I don't use it on the Epix as there are quite a few built-in DF options but it would be handy on the crippled Venu 2.

  • Also now that I think of it, I think there is a limited number of custom (ConnectIQ) fields you can use, but not entirely sure about the number.

  • Right, so I downloaded GRun to try. It's a bit wonky, but if you create a one field data screen, then you can use GRun or other custom ones with more fields. And the ConnectIQ per screen is limited to 2, so if you want to do a combination of some custom ones, you can't get far.

  • Correct, Garmin have had this ridiculous 2 CIQ data field limit for wearables (not for the Edge, up to 10) forever...EXCEPT on the Epix 1 and FR735 if memory serves. Initially it might have been for memory reasons, these days, well, one can guess why, especially on crippled watches like the Venu...

Why do you say it's "wonky" ? On the Epix it looks good and it's the only I know of where you can adjust the hight of the data fields.

  • It looks super cluttered on Venu 2s (the smaller one). For this watch I like "All in One" data field a bit more, but of course it isn't as versatile and full of stuff as GRun.

Also saw that if you swipe from 1 data field on screen (GRun or whatever else) to 2 or more data fields on screen, there is still the GRun on the top and then some Garmin original field on the bottom, which looks and feels hideous. But I guess that's the same across Garmin devices, not a specific to Venu

Would you be able to give me a screenshot of your GRun settings? Could try someone's else setup, maybe would like it better.

  • That's what it looks like on the 1.3" 416*416 Epix screen and it should be the same on the Venu 2. Quite legible I think.

  • Venu 2 came in yesterday and I'm really liking it so far vs the clunky Epix 2, I just posted about that at length in another post but I came back here to say that VO2Max can be seen at any time, just go to "User Settings", it's the first item in the list, above "Fitness Age".
