Measuring activity distance wrong?

Yesterday I went on a walk I've done dozens of times; it's a little over 2 miles. Using the Venu 2 Plus as usual, I got the one-mile notification on the watch at the usual place and didn't look at it again until I finished. At that point the watch recorded my total distance as 1.16 miles, which is about half what it actually was! I thought maybe I had somehow paused it, but clearly it was still recording GPS points since it correctly showed the trace of the entire loop. In the summary it showed a total activity time of about 34 minutes at a 17 min/mile pace, but only came up with 1.16 miles??

Looking at the activity on the Connect website, it looks like there is a discontinuity in the track just after the 1.16 mile point, after which the GPS track picks up and goes to the end but my distance travelled stays stuck at 1.16 miles.

This all started with my first activity after the 13.14 update. I'll try another walk in the next day or two and see what happens, but this is the first bug of this kind that I've had in 20 years of using Garmin sports watches!

  • Experienced exactly the same with my new Garmin Venu 2 on my first run with it today (also exactly after 2,5 km). All the other data (hr, pace, time) kept recording correctly and the GPS route looked perfect afterwards. So I assume there is still no solution for the problem?

  • I have a pretty new Venu 2 and have like a similar experience.

I ran 18,7km and it showed me only 7,4km. It simply stopped counting after (maybe a small GPS loss?) at around 7,4km. But if I export the run from connect.garmin.com and reupload it again, it shows me the correct kms. Also the exported data, can be uploaded to google.earth and it shows me, the entire track correctly.

Also after the run, on the watch, I see a track drawing of my run, and it shows the complete track, but it simply does not not count correctly. (wrong total km and stops counting laps). And this way, is also wrong during the run, I would say, this is a main issure for a sport smart watch.

I have not set up any "trainings", or something, it was a simple "run"-activitity. And this happend three times in a row now. So the failure must be some kind of software bug?

    What should I do?

  • Have the same issue. The route is correct but the distance is only 1/6 of the actual one. His is super disappointing
