No hasn’t started and stopped an activity ( well not knowingly!) Does the app need to be open all the time? If so is there a setting where I can stop it trying to save until I open the app later?

Okay, are you still able to scroll throughout your watch at all? In the link below are the instructions for stopping an activity and saving it. If you are able to possibly "Discard" the activity if there is one running on the background of your watch?
