After SW 3.00 - No Networks Found / Invalid Password / Blinking WiFi icon + Red X when syncing

Hello,

yesterday my index S2 upgraded to firmware 3.00.

Today I saw that:

User settings were not synced, which means that no usernames are on the scale, only empty persons with question marks.

Date and Time settings are also not synced and do not change after several measurements. (I switched to 24h in the app)

I did:

1) Factory reset

2) removed the scale from Garmin web interface and from the Garmin app

3) Re-attached the scale again via Garmin app (and yes, I of course removed indexS2 from bluetooth settings)

4) Did 2) and 3) several times

5) Tried to install the firmware again via the manual process. Did not work since 3.00 is already on the scale...

6) Deleted the WLAN connection and attached it again

7) Switched to another WLAN

4) Replaced the batteries and did 1), 2) 3), 6) again.

Nothing helped. the scale still does not show the user(s) I attached to the Garmin app and does not sync weight.

And I also noticed that after trying to sync a red X appears in the upper left corner of the scale for a short time.

Any hints?

Regards Uli

  • Whatever it is, the problem's gotten worse after the factory reset. Now the Index S2 doesn't show anything except weight and even that fluctuates drastically between weigh-ins (+/- 0,7 kgs). Big Uh-Oh.

  • Yeah, that’s an idea that needs a little explanation.

  • Warum ,nicht die alte FW wieder verwenden. Dann könnt ihr so lange rumspielen wie es euch gefällt.

    Thumbsdown

  • I haven't been able to get a full packet capture like opersvik, but what I have seen is along these same lines.

Yesterday I installed an old wireless router alongside my new mesh network with only the 2.4 GHz band enabled. For whatever reason, this seemed to resolve the issue and both my wife and I have been able to use the scale again multiple times.

  • New lesson to me. NEVER trust garmin about new firmware. Wait a week or two and check on formum if there are some problems. In that moment my 150$ is no better than regular 10$ scale.

  • I agree.  I had a bad feeling about this when I started the process.  Like I always say, garmin works when it works, but when it doesn't it's a mess.

  • Nach dem Desaster mit dem Update 2.12 erlaubt sich Garmin erneut eine hochnotpeinliche Fehlleistung!

Die dafür verantwortlichen Damen und Herren sollten sich in Grund und Boden schämen!

  • The challenge is that this update works for many people (like me) and not for many others (people posting here and probably more who don't even know this forum exists). There are an exponential number of possible network configurations. So many it's not possible for companies like Garmin, Apple, Microsoft, etc., to test every possible configuration. Hopefully, Garmin is adhering to the standards, which should result in fewer issues.

In my experience with Index scales, they have WiFi network issues, especially if you have a modern router that supports 5GHz and WiFi 6. Garmin Index scales (according to the specifications page) only support the 2.4 range. I've changed the defaults on my router and WAPs and appended the frequency number to the non-2.4 networks. So I have, for example, wifi_network, wifi_network5, and wifi_network6 SSIDs. When I do anything with the Index, I connect my iPhone to the 2.4 wifi network, then open connect and do whatever I need to with the scale.

I seem to recall the S2 was supposed to support the faster speeds, but it failed when I tried, so I just went back to what worked.

I should also mention that the scale in my bathroom is < 3 meters from a WAP in the hall. It receives the wifi signal five by five.
