How can I track kids' weight on Index S2 Smart Scale

As far as I know the only way you can track users' weight is to add them as a connection in Garmin Connect. It would be nice to be able to add people without accounts, underage kids are not allowed to have accounts, and not everyone that want to see their weight stats want and need to have an account.

E.g. I would like to be able to track my kids' and parents' weight, none of them have Garmin Connect account, and they do not need one. It would be nice if I can add people from my account or somewhere in the smart scale memory and be able to access their data from the app without having to login/logout different users. Xiaomi Smart Scale can do this through Mi Fit app, I don't see a reason why this can not be implemented in Garmin Connect.

Also it's not ideal that you can't see all body composition metrics without an account, even smart scales 4-5 times less expensive can display those with minimal input (age, height, gender).

  • I get that Garmin devices are designed for people without kids…

  • Very disappointed to see that this is still an issue more than a year later!

And not even any further feedback from Garmin!

  • Dissapointed too. If i knew i would not buy it. I have to tell this to my friends. They were asking me for smart scale (i was using tanita before) .

  • I just bought these scales and agree with you how annoying it is that I can't create profiles within my account for the whole family. I just assumed that you could as it's such a common sense feature to have.

I will be warning all family and friends with family away from these scales.

  • Very disappointing with the approach from Garmin on this topic. Should really be a simple thing to implement.

I will NOT recommend other families to buy this product until this is solved.

  • I have the even worse issue that whenever my son of 20kg steps on the scale, the value is synced to my wifes account and overwrites her weight in the mid 60s. This oversight/bug is beyond absurd and should have been caught by the first tester.

  • This issue bothers me, too. It's absolutely solvable. They could implement child accounts that are controlled by adult accounts (if Apple and Google can figure it out, Garmin should be able to as well), or they could allow some kind of local user that isn't part of Garmin Connect at all.

They figured it out with the Jr. line of fitness trackers, so I think it's fair to expect them to do it for the scale.

  • I agree with the sentiments in this thread.  There's no technical showstopper preventing children from being added as local accounts, it's just not on their marketing radar.  I wish I'd known before making a purchase.  Oh well, I'm adding my name here so potential buyers can see what's up.

  • I would be happy if it would just recognize that my kid is not me and show his weight without it being added to my trend.  It’s a bit annoying to have to edit Garmin Connect each time someone else steps on the scale.  Even if it’s just an option to save the update or something.

  • It is pretty unfortunate that this isn't in any road map and still isn't obvious in any marketing.  I also just bought a scale for my whole family to use, and my kids won't be able to actually get engaged with it because we can't track their data.

Not only is this really awful for a $150 product, it's also silly since getting young engagement is the kind of thing you should want, so that new generations are engaged with your products.

As it is, I may wind up completely leaving the Garmin ecosystem for another company that actually supports families, since this scale was my first Garmin health&fitness product.
