Right Pedal Continues to be “disconnected”

Like I’ve noticed some of you have suffered, I too cannot get the right pedal to consistently connect. After receiving my V3, I immediately put them on and rode. And of course, immediately had a low battery warning, with zero seconds of use.

Batteries changed. Since then, four rides—3 with a “disconnected” right pedal. Battery door has been checked, tape has meticulously been applied, prayers have been said. Nothing.

Garmin, this is getting extremely frustrating. $1K invested + new batteries + following all of your recommendations meticulously. And still very unsatiafied. Very very close to giving up on Vector.
  • This is either two faulty units or a big software problem.

There are a couple of software related issues that affect the pedal to pedal communication. One is that the Bluetooth connection to the GCM app on the phone can interfere with the pedal to pedal connection, and cause the 'right sensor missing' indication as well as half-power reports. So, if you have not already done so, it may help to do the following:
    - Start Garmin Connect Mobile on your phone.
    - Wake up the pedals and then go to the "Garmin Devices" tab on GCM
    - Go to the device properties for your Vector 3 pedals, and make sure that the pedals are paired. IF they are paired, you will have a tab near the bottom of the page that says "UNLINK". Do not select that, but go back up to the Garmin Devices page.
    - Swipe left on the Vector 3 tab, then select "Remove", and "Remove" again when it asks for the confirmation.

On the Edge or FR935, you should have a connection indication for your pedals. When you select Calibrate, make sure the pedals are stationary (no pedaling) with no load on them. If you use both the Edge and the FR935 simultaneously, make sure that all the device settings (crank length, cycling dynamics enabling, etc.) are the same.
  • Same problem here. Let‘s pray it works following some of the steps here.
  • t_smit - I ride with Bluetooth off and the Garmin Connect app closed so surely it can’t be a cause? . Also, I only use the Garmin 820 and still have this issues. Is there anything else I can try?
  • I'm simply using the Vector 3 pedals connected to my Garmin 520 (along with Garmin's cadence sensor and Garmin's speed sensor). I don't even have the Garmin Connect app on my iPHone.
The issue has progressed from the old "Missing Right Pedal Sensor" message to no data at all, even though the pedals are paired and connected to the 520. It now just sits at " - - - Watts" all the time.

Now, the left pedal LED indicates that it cannot find the other pedal at all. (Three green blinks every 7 seconds or so).

I was reluctant to remove the right pedal's battery stack after reading the horror stories, but did it anyway, albeit very cautiously. I see nothing wrong in there. Put the battery stack back into the pedal and tightened until just snug. No help.

So I then disconnected and un-paired from the Garmin 520. Waited a bit and re-paired and re-connected. It asked if I wanted to calibrate. "Yes". ERROR! Won't calibrate.

Still no power display. Still, the left pedal has those 3 green LED flashes.
Garmin, you have a reputation for having the best Tech Support going. I own several Garmin devices including two Zumo motorcycle GPSs. I am also a Garmin stockholder. Garmin has never let me down in the past. Can you please let us know that a "fix" is upcoming and that it's important to the Garmin engineers and sales/marketing staff?

This is important to me. At $1,000, my toy budget is blown. Can't try any other brands and really don't want to. The Vector 3 pedals suit me perfectly (if they'll just work).

Can I ask a few questions for context? Part of the issue is we don't know what you've tried or what your system configuration is.
Did the pedals ever work correctly? If so for how long? Do you have any FIT files recorded from when it was working? If you have it would help for you to post a couple.
Did you update the pedal firmware at any point?

As the other poster noted, it may be that the right side batteries have discharged. If you have a known-good pair of LR44 batteries that you can insert, it would be good to try that.
If you install the new batteries and still get no indication from the right side (and continue to get three blinks from the left) then it may be that something has gone wrong with the pedal link or that there is an electrical or mechanical problem with the right pedal. The pedal linking can be re-set from the Garmin Connect app on your iPhone.

Why are you using the Garmin cadence sensor with the Vectors? Isn’t that redundant data? Could that be a problem, especially sitting so close to the pedal?

KfwKen. i think you need new set of batteries.
i got this one after having issues with drop outs and now 11 hrs so far no big issues. knock on wood

The Amazon link you provided is a little dubious. Everyone should keep in mind that it is very (very) difficult to purchase non-counterfeit batteries from Amazon, even if they appear to be in genuine packaging. I’ve learned the hard way on this trying to purchase lithium cells for my extensive home automation system. Google Amazon counterfeit batteries to learn more.

I'm having the exact same issues with mine, todays ride saw multiple 'Right Pedal Disconnected' and when looking at the power screen on 820 screen, it showed 0% Right foot, occasionally this would fix itself on a reclip-in but again, not happy at all with these pedals. :(

I just got my Vector 3s last weekend 7/14 and have done two rides. Same issue with the right pedal and using the Garmin 520 and Garmin Connect. Updated software and still have the same issue. I will order new batteries but these are brand new pedals. This should be easier.
  • I had a similar problem and for me it was a problem that a right pedal wasn't updated to the latest firmware but the left was updated. You can try to remove batteries for a couple mins maybe it will help after turn on updates will be installed.
