Firmware Versions

Is the display unit firmware upgradeable too? When I connect mine via USB to my computer it does not show up as a drive nor is it recognised by GE (having problems getting the tail light recognised by GE too - see other thread), but it does charge via USB.

Great, thanks! Naming the file gupdate.gcd and copying it to the device did the trick.

Could you please write back to the list and tell us your impressions on which version of the firmware works best ?

Yes, there is an upgrade to 2.20 for the Display Unit also. When you connect it to your PC, it should show up as a drive. You should be able to add it to GarminExpress. First, make sure you have the latest GE, v 4.1.8.0.

I have the latest version of GE but I cannot add either the tail light or display unit to GE, see "Specified unit ID is invalid" thread.

I do not believe that you will not be able to register the radar display unit as updates to that are sent from the radar tail light to the radar display unit so only the radar unit is registered.

Sure I will. I plan to go for a ride tomorrow and will test it.

Well, I've decided to switch back to 2.00 and do more testing. I found that with 2.20, it rarely detected 4 cars behind me whereas it always did it with 2.00.

Today ride at times to confirm some issues.

1. The radar detection distance becomes shorter and dull.
2. The only detect about 10 ~ 50m vehicles.
3.Varia will ignore a lot of faster than me from behind a vehicle about 2 ~ 5km near me.

v2.20 reaction behind me completely unable to drive.


I finally downgraded to v2.0

I agree. Although there are some false positives with the 2.00 firmware I'm willing to live with them as I feel that otherwise the detection is faster and more accurate.
