Varia 2 false alerts

Just upgraded to a Varia 2 rear light from the Varia 1, seemed to fix everything I didn’t like about the first version (weak light, horizontal aspect). Gave the light a try today on a 50 mile ride and noticed that the new model seems to pick up riders behind me as a false alert far more frequently than the old version (very, very rare). Some firmware tweaking still needed?
  • So, the Wahoo Roam has their own radar now? If not, how would changing head units solve the issue?

  • Well, that was just wishful thinking on my part.  It just galls me when companies that could work out a solution, just don't want to bother.

  • The Varia is now compatible with Wahoo, so no need to buy a new anything other than the head unit.

  • For what it's worth my Varia radar works significantly better (basically flawlessly) with my Wahoo Roam than it ever did with my Edge 820 and 830's.

  • What does significantly better mean? Are you referring to disconnects or how the screen shows approaching vehicles? I don't see how the Wahoo could have less false alerts since that signal is sent from the Varia.

The Varia works perfectly on the 1030 but the audio alert is way too low to be heard. Can it be heard on the Wahoo?

  • Take it with a grain of salt and for what it's worth.. your mileage might vary. FAR fewer false alerts, ZERO drops (both issues were extremely prevalent and obnoxious when using the Edge). And yes, even the screen display is better (purely aesthetics but it shows an actual car instead of a dot plus you can use the side LED's if you choose). The audio alert is plenty loud on the Wahoo though I didn't really consider it to be an issue with the Edge that I recall.

  • The alerts from the Varia radar are MUCH louder on the Wahoo.  I tried out my friend's Wahoo Element Bolt and found alerts were easily heard on busy roads, with lots of wind and traffic. On my Edge 530 on a busy windy road I would have to be hit by a car to know if was behind me. Alerts are much too soft.
