All the features can be released as software update, even the BLE functionality. The older unit uses nRF52832 that supports BLE...
Actually, two new Varia radars were just announced this morning. https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/05/garmin-rtl515-rvr315-cycling-radar-review.html
Hoping that the "peloton mode" will be in an software update for the 510...possible, isn't it?
You are just cycling through the light modes as you do with the current units when using the button on the top of the unit. It is just that the unit now has an additional mode.
The easiest way to activate it is to set up a light network then you can use the light widget to put it in Peloton mode.
Thats what I meant. So - where is the update for my 510? ;)
I don’t get this “upgrade.” It seems it would appeal only to those who use a phone instance of a Garmin Edge or other Ant+/BLE cycling computer. Does anyone really care about overlaying Strava or RideWithGPS maps to indicate where they were passed by cars? While I just purchased my rtl510 while on sale a couple weeks ago, the new features wouldn’t encourage me to consider an “upgrade’ even if I were a long-term user. I imagine that some of new features will show up in firmware updates, but only after Garmin encourages rtl510 users to upgrade to the new model. Like I said before, if Garmin develops a Varia with a safety video camera like the Cycliq Fly6CE, I’d buy one in a minute. This upgrade does nothing for me except make me happy I was able to purchase the old model for under $100.
