Stamina is completely useless.

Introduction: I have the Fr955 and Edge 840. I wear the watches constantly, even when I sleep. I only take them off for charging. So Garmin knows everything about me that it needs to know.

How is it possible that after stamina is depleted, I can still ride for another hour without changing my average power? And at the end of the workout, I still feel energetic, without any sense of depletion or exhaustion?

  • How accurate do you think your power duration curve data is? The two most important areas of the curve are the short intensity, under10 minutes. Do you think these values reflect your max capability. The second is having good data for durations longer than the ride you did.

Are you riding with HRM monitor as well as power?

  • How accurate do you think your power duration curve data is?
Favero Assioma Duo. I have never had any issues with them before.

Are you riding with HRM monitor as well as power?
    Always

  • One of the reasons for replacing my 830 with the 840 was stamina. But this damn thing is more of a joke than a feature...

  • It would be good to know how it's calculated to better understand what exactly it is.  As far as I'm concerned, many of Garmin's performance metrics are just novelties.  I'll look at them, but don't consider them actionable.

  • I'm not questioning the accuracy of power data, but whether you have done maximally efforts for the shorter durations on the power curve

  • There were no maximum efforts (VO2 Max) on both of these rides. They were tempo rides, aiming for a consistent effort without trying to push to the limits.

I'm especially surprised by the last 2 screenshots. Stamina depleted at 2 hours and 20 minutes out of a total time of 7 hours and 14 minutes! If the difference was only 1 hour on the first ride, but 5 hours on the second, it doesn't seem like mere inaccuracies anymore.

  • Stamina uses your power curve data from the last 3 months.

  • I brought you results on how accurately the algorithms calculate it. If any other data is needed (such as access to all the account data, for example), let me know.

  • The second is having good data for durations longer than the ride you did.

To me this has been the biggest drawback of the feature.  I'd love for it to accurately predict my stamina for "the first" long ride I do and not require a recent long ride to sort of calibrate it.

Example: I consistently do hard indoor interval workouts around 90 minutes probably 0.8-0.85 IF.  I took a nice weather day and rode outside for around 3 hours at closer to 0.7-0.75 IF.  I feel as though I could have gone a bit longer at similar intensity (which I think tends to make sense per common cycle training philosophy - lower IF, dramatically increase time to fatigue), yet at the end my Stamina showed me nearly depleted (12%)

Maybe my example isn't as extreme, but my ride was one where I would have aimed to do a 13 mile run following if it was a race.  I _think_ I felt like I could have done it that say but seeing 12% makes me think my example would have quickly become similar to others here (running mostly ok with 0% stamina).
