[SOLVED] Unable to calculate route to starting point

My Edge is unable to calculare the route to the starting point. Even in road or mountain-bike mode, I go to Back to Start > Select Most Direct Route > Select Ride and the device prompts me someting like "unable to calculate route"

    Mine has done this a while now. After installing firmware 8.10 I thought first it had helped. The unable to calculate route did not show up.

    But it could still not calculate a route back to start. After a 50 km ride, it tried to calculate a direct back route. But the route was to big (269 km) Tried it again back home. Checked the GPS signal. Could se my correct start point on the map. Started a training. Rode 400 meters. Tried to go back on the direct route. But now it told me that it could not calculate, since the starting point was to far away... :( 

    I now have reinstalled the map 2021.10 via Garmin Express. That seemed to have helped. Only tried it briefly once though. If the problem occurs I will report back...

    It helped to reinstall the latest map, in my case

    Ok... Updating the map, did not help :( Still having the problem. The direct route back to the starting point does not work. The starting point is way off. Often more than 100 km away from the actual starting point. And you can see the route has been correct recorded when you get home. So no GPS problems. Must be a firmware problem  :(

    Why does Garmin always ruin the unit you bought, that worked fine when you got it??? Why can we not just keep the unit as we bought it? Is it even legal to ruin a unit we own, without asking us to ruin it??

    I have the same issue. Maybe another brand solves the problem? I think it is just a limitation of this brand software.

    I've found that if you save the start location of your ride on the Garmin, it will direct you back to the start fine.

    It shouldn't matter.

    In all cases, it's computing a course to a coordinate.

    If it's failing to get the coordinates in one case, it's a bug.

    but appear for the first time for me today in 9.10 (unable to calculate route) ... ( even if I was only at 10km from the start )

    When does it occur? This topic refers to the error that appears after selecting "back to start " and then "most direct route".
