When will we get an update to disable Virtual Partner

The band-aid of slowing down VP so it disappears from the map does not address all issues with VP.

I've never had a desire to use VP and none of the folks I ride with use VP on their Garmins.

When will we get a s/w update to disable this annoying "feature"?

  • Add me to the list of people really wanting to get rid of the Virtual Partner, which simply reduces clarity on the map page whenever it happens to keep up. Enabling this option by default, let alone not having a way to disable it, seems absolutely absurd to me.

  • I'd like to see a photo of this too. It must be different than what I see on the 1030.

  • Is it the section below that map that bothers you? Because that's the elevation profile, which can simply be disabled.

  • No, this is the VP and there is no way to disable it.

  • The VP will not just appear in the elevation profile, which would be easy to hide. However my main gripe is that the VP will also appear on the map as a separate arrow, which is quite easy to mix up. Admittedly you and the VP have to be in the same (virtual) location for that to happen, but it's still very annoying.

  • It's the elevation profile (with the VP in it), and it can be disabled. Really.

These screenshots are from a 530, but it's the same on a 830.

Do note that after disabling the elevation profile, you have to go to another page and back to the map page before it will actually be gone.

(the VP arrow that's shown on the map itself cannot be disabled, but that one wasn't in GerdF03's photo)

  • Here is a picture from my first post about this issue when I first got my 830.  I had no idea what this second arrow was (the larger one).  Seemed so strange to have this floating around the map at the same time as my location arrow.

Not only is it distracting, it's the principle of this not being an option to turn on or off that annoys me.  You have no choice -- the Virtual Partner arrow will always be displayed.  If you want to perform the work-around to speed it up or slow it down to move it off the map, this must be done every time you start navigating a course.

Please get rid of this "Feature". It is annoying and confusing when you're glancing at the map while riding trails.

I see no value in the feature at all.

  • The 810 had the ability to disable VP for each course. Forcing everyone to always have VP active is a step backwards.

Speaking for all that want to disable VP it would be better if there were a general option to disable VP for all courses. I hate to say trivial when it comes to s/w changes, but this should not be that difficult.
