Edge 810 switching off unexpectedly

Sorry to post in the 820 section but there isn't an 810 section!!

I am finding that my 810 regularly switches off mid ride. It only does this when I am following a course (never when I am simply recording a ride). I can switch it back on again and I am at the "save" or "discard" screen. I press "save" but then I have to stop and switch off and back on again and wait for GPS connection. This is frustrating for three reasons. Firstly I have to stop the ride, secondly I have recorded two rides when I did one, thirdly, I don't always spot this immediately so I have missing miles.

Anyone found a solution?

  • It would possibly suggested a corrupted course file where did you generate the course file

you could try taking one of your recent normal rides turn it into a course file on the device and try and ride that and see if it bombs

  • Thanks Jim. I tried deleting all courses and all recorded rides and then downloaded one course. It still switched off.

I was slated to do LeJoG so didn’t want to be let down on that! Bought an 830. Seems to have worked fine over 9 days and 9 courses but I’m not a huge fan of Garmin, I had other problems on a 910xt and had five replacement units!!

  • Where are you downloading the course from and in what format GPX ??

    where are you based

  • Tried two alternatives: designing route on Garmin connect and sending across wired and then designing on Strava and getting it wireless. Made no difference.

  • Had the same issue while trekking in Spain. I used an Openstreet map downloaded as my map. My courses were designed on Garmin Connect like hundreds of other I did in the Past. Normally, I ride bicycle in Canada, First, it took the GPS about 5 minutes to get Satellites signal. When starting on the course, the Edge 810 shut down every time I was progressing on the right path, but remained On when out of the path. Could it be the satellite coverage, the openstreet map, the device?

  • I have the same issue. This is the bug report on the device:
