Garmin Edge 820 sensors

I have an iPhone X and have been able to pair my phone to my Garmin Edge 820. I am unable to connect to either my cadence or speed sensor. I have replaced the battery in both and also deleted them from the 820. As per the instructions I have spun the crank shaft and neither is detected nor does the LED flash green. Any ideas??

The light will only flash for 5 seconds when the sensor wakes up. If you miss it, you have to wait for the sensor to go back to sleep, then wake it up again to see it flash. Right off hand, I don't remember how long it takes for it to go to sleep. If there's no flashing light, my guess is the battery is dead or in upside down, which would also explain the 820 not seeing it.
