Good morning,
do you think the edge 820 will be able to benefit quickly from the "climpro" function as on the 530 and 830?

Yes, I think they should add the feature now. Disappointed they made it available for the cheap 130 plus but not a premium gps unit like the 820.
On this logic a map is suffice, you don't even need a Edge.
:)
The info is there on a topo map, though not shown as a profile. With a ruler, pencil and paper you could plot out a profile. I have a clipboard that mounts to my handlebar for the purpose.
Software costs…
Marketing my friend.
They want you to buy a new item just for 2-3 software options. I guess all Edge models have the required hardware to calculate these parameters. Is a short time win but a long time loss for Garmin if it implements that tactic.
IMHO they must add these features on previous models also because is a strong encouragement for the users to preserve the Garmin hardware.
Wahoo wouldn’t do this to their customers. Make them pay so much for a premium gps unit without features that even the cheap gps unit now has. They’re still selling the 520 plus for £250. Pretty shocking there hasn’t been a response from someone working for Garmin just explaining why the 130 plus has climb pro but 820 or 520 plus hasn’t.
Draw a route. Save as GPX. Use GPS Visualizer and save EUR 200.
The idea was that a expensive GPS unit must have updates for a long period of time.
I have all sort of Garmin hardware and what i deduct from use is that Garmin have poor software on most of the units. A update broke what a previous fix do etc. But super expensive prices. For example a USB charging cable worth EUR 1-2 they sold with EUR 20-25. This is my opinion. Mate...when you require a lot o money for the hardware be sure you assure stable, updated and tested software over the years.
Keep this in account next time you buy a cycling hardware.

Software costs money to develop (even dodgy Garmin software) so they have to pay for it somehow. Making you buy a new unit is one way to accomplish that. On the flip side, they want to sell you a new unit so they add features to it that you don't/won't have on you current unit.
