Problem with HRM strap

A HRM or accessories folder would be best for this, there isn't one so it goes here.

My HRM-RUN heart rate monitor has stopped working. I changed the battery recently. There is some discolouration on the left hand snapper, under the plastic seal. It looks like some sort of corrosion or even rust.

Anyone have any experience or suggestions? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1292573.jpg ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1292574.jpg
  • I have exactly the same problem. Did you solve the problem?
  • Switch to a Wahoo KICKR. Works much better. After having many issues with my Garmin HRM and strap, I switched to Wahoo several years ago and have had excellent performance.
  • Also make sure that it's not the strap. I've had terrible luck with Garmin straps and use a cheap ($12.50) replacement strap from Heart Rate Monitors USA that solved my issues. Just be sure to hand wash it in cold water after each use.

  • rfruns how long have you had it and what do you mean by stopped working? I assume that it is giving you no reading at all - does it show as connected to your device? I have certainly had issues with the straps in the past but not with the actual units themselves and the rust looks not good. It is worth reporting to Garmin support assuming its not 10 years old. You could reasonably argue that its not fit for purpose if it is rusting like that so really they ought to replace it assuming you have treated it reasonably. With my Garmin HRs I dump the strap into the bath whilst I am running it along with my watch - I have done this for the past 6 years with various models of HRM and watch and it seems to work quite well.
