Auto-brightness is too low

Hi!

I just did my first ride with me new Garmin Edge 540 Solar and I noticed that the auto brightness makes the screen not bright enough.

It kept setting the value between 15-25% (if I turn off the auto-brightness it keeps the last set) and I needed at least 40% at that moment to see the values clearly (the sun was about to set, but there was still some natural light).

At the end of the ride, I tried again and the auto-brightness set the value at 10% and I wanted it at 30% (maybe 25% at minimum).

I come from the 530 and I think it worked better in this matter!

Thanks!

The brightness can be manually increased, but the state is not saved across reboots.

  • Hello, like many of you, I replied to this thread with my location, but in a conversation I had with Garmin support today, they are not aware of this issue! The support rep asked that I send in a video of the issue so they can officially investigate a fix.

If we want this to get fixed, I recommend that everyone who is having this issue go to support.garmin.com and navigate to the 540 support page, and then either call or chat with a Garmin rep and let them know that you are having this issue, you have to actually speak/chat with a rep. They should ask you for a video and they will give you a link you can use to upload your video.

  • I reported the problem twice. The first time, after sending a video, they said it was normal and not a fault. The second time, after sending it to the service, they exchanged my model for another one. Of course, the exchanged edge still has this problem. Garmin simply ignored the issue.

  • My Edge 530 was perfect readable at brightness level 7. (I ride only in daylight)

The Edge 540 is a step back and I have the same acceptable brightness at level 10.

  • If they have no idea of the issue, then what are we doing in here?

Is Garmin assuming a forum is a place that random people talk to each other and solve their poblems that could be resolved by reading the manual, but refusing to read it?

I hoped to get my sensors connection issue fixed by upgrading from 830 to 540 since it has a new bluetooth hardware, which is actually fixed, but then we're back to square one and the basic functionality of a digital device with display is not addressed.
