Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Edge 530 device to your computer using the micro-USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Edge530_719Beta.zip folder.
  3. Copy the GUPDATE.GCD file from the Edge530_*** distribution folder to the \Garmin folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  4. If there is a GPS_*** folder, place the 006B310706.GCD file into the \Garmin\RemoteSW folder of the device. Please note, not all Beta releases will include an update.
  5. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the Edge, and wait for the update to finish.
  6. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE_710.GCD file in the \Garmin folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device.
NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • That's the point of this forum.  Garmin obviously reads it, but they only reply very selectively.  Sure, they like it when we can help each other out, but the real purpose is their direct access to see what's going on in the real world with the product.  Few replies from them, but I suspect they read every post.

On that note... I am a Edge 130 owner, reading the 530 forum, because I'm not upgrading until I feel it will suit my needs for mtb.  It seems they still haven't gotten the Trailforks app straightened out, so I'm in no hurry.

  • With the beta firmware Garmin specifically ask you to send them details of any issues found.

  • Trailforks error stating its not stored on the device.  With 7.10, cannot unlock the maps.  So both have issues.

  • The forum is not for reporting defects. In the archive with the new firmware there is a bug report form and the address to send it to. Stop misleading people who think that if they write something on the forum, it is adequate to report a bug/problem through adequate reporting channels.

  • FW 7.19 beta review suspended for me as I hit a show stopper, interested if anyone else has seen this or is it "just me"?

While I don't like the "direction arrows" and especially don't like that the can't be turned off I can see they might be useful for say Mountain Bikers with tight twisty trails.

I hit the brick wall when I tried to get screen shots for my beta feedback via following a course on my smart trainer.

I connected to the trainer, selected the "Indoor" profile (ie no GPS), selected the follow a course option and selected the course but then I started the course the garmin displayed a map of the likely last start location of my last outdoor ride (not the map of the course I selected).

Tried several times and always the same.

Reverted to 7,10 and did the same and the course map displayed as I would normally expect.

So I conclude there is some introduced issue relating to course following with the Indoor profile, I do a fair bit of that.

I could view the correct map via selecting the Map option for the course but could not get the course map to display in the Profile Data Screens when I started the course.

I will give Garmin Beta some feedback as per above.

    Anyone else seen similar?

Video of trying to "follow a course" via Indoor Profile with Garmin 530 (FW 7.19 Beta) https://youtu.be/QfRdrz98k8Y

(note the map displayed is of the area of my last outdoor ride not the ride I selected and it never progresses beyond th start position. But works perfectly before installing the beta and after reinstalling 7,10

  • I have had a sudden restart. I was following a structured workout -pyramids- and the edge froze in the middle of it. Then it restarted and kept on following the pyramid. It had drawing issues, though.

  • Hello,

I've had the same issue a couple times, but before I submit a bug report I'm curios if others have experienced the same issue (mostly because the bug report will be useless because I don't know how to reproduce it...).

Every couple rides I will have to reset the device to get location data (and everything based on it: grade, speed, etc..).  Cadence, temp, etc... are all still updating on the ride, just not anything based on location.

    Thanks!

  • had exactly the same problem on yesterday's indoor ride.

  • the degree of slope must be improved. it has always been a step below other computers, for years now there has been no significant improvement but I do not lose hope.

  • Good news - we've now got chevrons in the route- it really helps - the chevrons point the directions of the route -Wahoo got that right the first time out of the gate - people in Wahoo actually cycles.

There's 3 map coloring options - Moutainbiking, Classic and High Contrast. The High Contrast mode could work well - it dulls all the other colors and the route is still the magenta colored (seems brighter as there's less competing colors around) but this time with the chevrons. Garmins should allow us to choose how many chevrons - the current chevrons are quite sparsely distributed....maybe give us 2 to 3 options of chevrons distances, sparsely packed, medium , and densely packed chevrons (just like the wahoo).

The magenta color is still a painful thing - allow us to choose the route color - magenta is a terrible color for navigation. Green would be universally understood and probably clearer too.

When the sun dips below 3 o'clock the Garmin screen is ridiculously very hard to read - it's best at noon - 10 o'clock - 2 o'clock sun position. This is the character of the screen Garmin chose to use.
