New Edge 530 Public Beta 3.57 Now Available

A new Beta software for the Edge 530 has been released. Full change log, instructions, and software for installing the beta can be found here.

  • If you experience problems with this build, our engineering team would like to hear about your experience so they can work toward resolving any remaining issues. Please visit the Garmin forum for the Edge 530. Please note that you may not get a response to the forum post unless we need more information on the issue you report.
  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Changes made from version 3.55 to 3.57:

  • Improved LiveTrack reliability.
  • Improved overall device stability.

Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Edge 530 device to your computer using the micro-USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Edge530_357Beta.zip and place the GUPDATE.gcd file in the \Garmin folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the Edge, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE-350.GCD file in the \Garmin folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device.
NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • I disagree with you.

I went 500 -> 810 -> BOLT -> 530 and the 530 is nowhere near as good as my BOLT was.

Just some of the things that infuriate me:

Serious connectivity issues, you can’t download a route from IQ whilst a ride is in progress, frankly crap Strava live segments integration, GPS accuracy issues, crashes and bugs, misleading TBT... the list goes on

In my opinion the good thing about the 530 is the battery life and support for the external battery pack. After Paris Brest Paris 1200km I will be selling it and returning to BOLT.

I seriously don’t know why people think the BOLT maps are rubbish. They are simple but that makes them super clear. I couldn’t care less what the street name is called, I just want to be able to see where I need to go.

Funny isn’t it how everybody’s opinion is different!

  • How can you return a product to garmin ? is that possible to return a product not bought on their web site ?

  • They just locked that thread without answering, ignore it and it will go away :(

  • Live segments on my 510 worked really well, I’ve noticed the “time behind” jumping around all over the place too on the 530. Been on the trainer for the last month so only got a few road rides in with my new 530, but it was really hard to follow a target time.

  • Still got crashes to alerts on, hydation for example...

  • Why is "Strava Live Segments" such a problem on Edge devices? I don't have any of these issues on my Forerunner 935, but it's not feasible to look at my watch while going all out on a segment. This should be an easy fix.

  • Update from yesterday Ride:

    - no crash, even with hydration alert

    - back to start point with direct route does not work. The 530 continue to follow the route you selected. I suppose you have to cancel your route to make it work.

    - tried many time to have the Strava segments working. Install/uninstall widget and segments but nothing worked.

    - when you follow a Garmin route, you are not receiving the sharp turns warnings anymore

    - sync with garmin express requires 3 or 4 attempts to clear the  message that you are not up to date

    - if you don’t have your phone with you + the garmin app open; the phone connection via Bluetooth does not work. I hope one day we will have the possibility to just connecting the Apple Watch 3 or higher and leave the phone at home.

    - overall, the 3.57 is more stable and work well. I recommend powering off/on the unit after every update. Strava segments, back to start direct route and the phone Bluetooth connection are still pain points

@garmin Matthew, should we upload the chipset update as well?

    Thanks
