GPS + Galileo Satellite Lost

I'm using a Garmin 530 with 3.20 firmware version in Spain. During the ride I have received multiple times a warning advertising me of Satellite Lost. Reviewing the route I found some strange peaks probably caused by these GPS lost.

Is a common issue with Galileo? Or is a generalized problem?

I thought that having more satellites was good for accuracy...

Thanks!

  • And now 2 months later no real improvement , how can one release a series of products with a major bug, witch must have been apperant for any Garmin test ride ?

  • This is the joke of the week : adviced to use the russians because they are more reliable. Does Europe have a problem,or does Garmin have a bug in their system?

Brand new Edge 530 (v5.20,indicating no updates available) and the issue remains the same: did yesterday my first ride with this device on "gps+galileo", and it was a hugh disappointment. At least lost 5x the gps signal, continuous recalculations, and getting the request at least 20x to take a U turn. Is Garmin aware that when you select road/race profile, you do not make a Uturn at 30km/h ?

  • Hi, yes, Garmin is aware, that you can't make a uturn at 30 km/h. You can influence this behaviour. Please have a look at this (it is written for 1030, but the same applies to the 530).

I'm only using GPS and have never had any issues with loosing signals.

  • 5.50 is the current firmware. You should update via Garmin Express. Apparently the unit itself won't notice new firmware versions and will always report that it's up to date - at least it did for me - probably until it receives the firmware file via Garmin Express.

  • I have upgraded to 5.50 via Garmin Express, and followed the suggestions of <schmjoe> : indeed , if you disable <recalculate route> setting and so on, the ride is much more practical. (so far the selling point of this device "fast in recalculating the routes w.r.t. previous devices": if you disable the feature, then the feature works perfect ???)

But upgrading to 5.50 is for me not an improvement:

today i did a course, and my device rebooted 2x during the ride. If i look at the buglist of 5.50 and before, i would say this software has still serious issues.

Since they added lines in the code to analyse that problem: can we upload rides  in which such reboots happens somewhere on a developer server, so that they can analyse it? Or is this data by default uploaded when you post your ride to Garmin Connect?
