Wahoo Tickr HRM problem

Anyone else having problem using the 520 with the Wahoo Tickr HRM? It takes my 520 several minutes to recognize it when adding it the first time. Even being added, the HR would only show up sporadically and very briefly.
  • I've been using a TickrX without any issues.
  • No issues here.

I regularly use both my Wahoo TICKR and my Garmin rigid strap HRM. Neither has had a problem before or during a ride.

    Battery?

Don't think it's the battery as it had just been replaced not too long ago. During the same workout when i had issue getting the HR to show up on the Edge 520, the TrainerRoad app (running on my Mac with an ANT+ USB dongle) has no problem at all seeing the HR from TICKR. As a matter of fact, distance-wise, the ANT+ USB dongle was further away than the Edge 520 from the TICKR. I'll take the battery out of TICKR and put it back in to see if that makes any difference.
  • Taking the battery and putting it back into the TICKR made no difference.
  • i contacted Wahoo support about my Tickr who confirmed issues for some people with Tickr on Edge 520 and 1000. Fix was to use TickrX or Tickr Run. They sent me a discount code to upgrade to one of the other units for the difference in price. I now have a Tickr X that works fine with Edge 520. Wahoo support are superb and helped me fix a problem that is probably not theirs to fix.

Maybe Garmin will update the Edge 520 firmware soon and the Tickr will work without the need to find an alternative solution?

I had no issues with Tickr on my 510, just on 520 :-(
  • That "explains" it. I too had no issues with the Wahoo Tickr on my 510, but the only 520 recognizes the Tickr. It recorded my heart beat for only a few seconds during a 4 hr ride. Used the 510 the next day and it worked without issue. Guess I'll switch to another HR sensor then as there's been no update on the 520 to make it work properly yet.

So I just bought a Garmin 520 non-bundle with the hopes to use a Tickr X with it as I'm interested in bringing in HR information from non-cycling sports. I was researching it online and found a page on MEC.ca that compares the bundle vs non-bundle Garmin 520. There's no permalink for the comparison page but this is the search page:

    http://www.mec.ca/shop/?q=garmin%20520

If you filter the page with "hide similar data" it shows that the non-bundle version does not have "HR in real time" as well as "HR Target zones." Is that for real or was it just set that way since there's technically no HR strap in the non-bundle? When pairing a non-Garmin HR strap like Tickr X, it does show real time HR, correct? I just want to make sure before special ordering the Tickr X.
  • I recently bought the 520 and can't get it to work with the Tickr heart rate monitor. After a long wait, it did recognize that the HR monitor was there. It looks as if it's connected, but there's no HR data going to the device or showing up on the screen. It sounds as if Garmin has not fixed this issue since it first came up a couple of months ago. It would be nice to know if Garmin is planning to patch this bug so I don't have to go buy another device.
  • Tickr not working with edge 520

I have the exact same problem, very frustrating after confirming compatibility before purchase (https://www.thisisant.com/directory/tickr/).

I read in another forum that Wahoo sent a discount code to another user to upgrade to the Tickr X which worked fine. Hope to not have to buy another HR monitor, but may have to...

I have both the 520 and the tickr, both new and I have absolutely no problem. The edge found and paired with the tickr just as the directions state. Try wetting the sensors on the hrm strap?
