I believe that the integration goes live on 2015-07-22.

You need to mark a segment as a favorite in Strava and enable Strava segments in Garmin Connect.

You will also need an Edge with a software build that supports Strava segments.

I have an Edge 520 so that shouldn't be the problem. Where in Garmin Connect do I enable Strava segments? I don't see this as an option anywhere.

    Thanks.

On the left, click the three horizontal bars -> Segments -> add the Strava widget to your Dashboard

  • Are you using the modern GC interface?

Is that an early release 520 unit that you have or did you mean a 510 or 500? I did not think that Garmin had started shipping 520s yet.

I just noticed that on Strava I had to authorize the connection for segments with Garmin. This hadn't appeared before (as of, say, 7/21).

    http://www.strava.com/athlete/segments/

As soon as I authorized it I logged back into my Garmin Connect account and now the segments section is replaced with the Strava ones with the notice that I'm using Strava Live Segments.

    Thanks for the info!

No problem. I just added it the other day, I'm thinking of upgrading to Strava Premium

Unrelated question to Garmin, but related to Strava. Does Strava allow you to log a ride, but exclude data from segments? I have an electric bike in which I want to log the miles, but not have it count against a segment. Or perhaps bucket results by gear (e.g., by bike).
  • If you mark a ride as private in Strava that will exclude it from any segment leaderboards.

Have a read of this https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/21577916-Uploading-E-bike-motor-assisted-or-non-conventional-bike-data-to-Strava-Guidelines

For E-Bike activities: Use the "E-Bike Ride" sport type. This removes the activity from normal segment leaderboards and puts those efforts on an "E-Bike" only leaderboard. For all other activities:

    • Mark the activity Private so as to remove all rankings and Segment times from the Leaderboard.
    • Or, categorize your Activity Type as a "Workout" or other generic type. Each Activity Type has its own specific and separate Segment Leaderboards that will not conflict the "Ride" Leaderboards. You can also change the Activity Type from the Strava App for Android or iPhone.

I have Connect linked to Strava, but I don't see the "Strava" on my segments pane using modern view. I only get Garmin segments. How do I enable Strava segments on my garmin connect desktop dashboard? Thanks.
