Solution? to navigate to new location turn by turn

I (still) don’t own a 520 or 520+ so please bear with me,.. I’m just thinking to find a solotion,….

I know you can’t enter an location in the device and use turn by turn navigation to it.
But what if ;)…
You create a short route starting at the location you want to go to. And then you can navigate to the beginning of that route what IS the location you want to get to :)

So create a short route on the Garmin Connect Mobile app and send it from your phone to your 520 plus, then navigate to the beginning of that route.

Will this work or am I thinking to simple?

It might work assuming you wouldn't cross any other point of your course first. I'm currently battling a bad cold so I haven't been out for a ride in a while.

I think you can create the course, send it to the 520+, then set it as your ride course. It'll notice you're not on the course and try to navigate you back to the course. This also means that it would navigate you to any spot on the course, not necessarily where it starts, but probably the closest point to where you are.

Depending on where you're riding, you can use the Yelp app to navigate to a business address if there's one close to where you want to go. You can also create routes in some CIQ apps like Komoot.
  • You can create a route from your current location to your destination and send it the Edge device (to have you possess a device to be able to do this) with a wide variety of mobile applications. These routes can contain TBT.
  • Navigating to start does work and you can create a course from any location.

If you use the browser you can make the course very small (0.01 mile) that way there is no danger it will pick up part of the route as you won't cross it
If you use the app you can only create a course with a minimum length of 1 mile but it doesn't have to be from your current location. Even if you cross the course and it picks it up it will take you to the start/end. I find its better to select the RANDOM direction when planning on the phone as sometimes it can't plan a route in the direction you've picked

If you're pre-planning then the browser way is the best option as you can you have much more control on the course you make. Also as you will have already put the course on the Garmin it doesn't matter if you don't have an internet connection trying to navigate to start

The plus point of the phone method is that it can be done on the fly assuming you have an internet connection

I prefix my courses with the letters POI so they are easy to identify

There are a couple of examples below

    Course planned from phone https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/20709189
    Course planned from browser https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/20709257
  • i want to thank everyone for his contribution,.. its somewhat clearer to me what the possibilities are :D
  • You can also do similar with the Komoot app on the 520/Komoot app on your mobile device. Either create a full route in the mobile device app from your current location or a short route near the destination so it'll be available whenever/wherever you are. Works well.
