Firmware 12.30 update - GPS firmware update

I updated my 520 to 12.30 firmware today, as part of the update there was also a 'GPS Firmware' update. This seems to have screwed my device, it no longer can get a GPS lock and every power power on after 30secs it says it is performing a GPS Firmware update (which runs for 10-20secs and goes directly from 0 to 100 before going back to the menu display). I have tried a Factory reset as well as downgrading the firmware back to 12.20 and upgrading again none of which have brought it back to life.... has anyone else had this issue?
  • Worked for me, too. Thanks!

I am having the same issues and attempted the suggested fix. I was unable to correct the issue. In my GPS file is the EPO.bin file and the file from the link in the remote folder. am I missing something? can someone post a checklist of how to execute the fix? thank you
  • Is the Edge still in the start-up loop problem?

Provided that the Edge has been taken out of the start loop problem then placing the GPS update file in the RemoteSW folder is all you need to do. The next time the Edge starts up it should then process that file, update the GPS software.

You can check the GPS version by going to Settings -> System -> About -> Copyright Information (It should show GPS 3.10 if the update was successful)

The startup loop has stopped, the GPS version is 3.10, but it still won't connect to satellites. I might contact Garmin in after the holiday.

Thank you aweatherall. You saved my Thanksgiving morning ride! I updated last night and then like everyone else - was unable to get a GPS lock this morning. Thanks to you I was able to fix it and get my ride in. Now I can eat more Turkey!

I am experiencing the same problem after updating to version 12.3, I did the remotesw update using the file posted, it updated the Gps software at boot up to 3.1 but alas same problem, flicks between 1or 2 bars attempting to acquire a satelite. Is it possible to reapply an older version of the Gps software. I have rolled back the software version to way back to 6 and 11 but the gps software is always 3.1. Unfortunately I'm out of warranty so I'm stuck trying to sort it out, everything worked perfectly before the update and all other functions work as they should.. I've formatted it, reapplied maps connected it to Bluetooth, and left it outside for 20 mins but same problem. The satelite status is showing it attempting to connect to a couple of satellites e.g. 26 and 14 but not with any strength.. any help would be great. Thanks from Aus
  • Did anyone figure out how to correct the GPS issues with GPS version 3.1? My wife's 520 was recently upgraded to software version 12.50 and GPS version 3.1. Her 520 had been working fine before this before the upgrades. Now her GPS signal goes in and out during a ride.

    Hi

I have an Edge 520 with latest 12.50 firmware but the time seems to be out by 12 hours. Additionally when starting a ride I see a message saying GPS update but not sure if this actually updates.

Any suggestions or ideas on how to fix?

Additionally my Samsung s8 continues to tell me there is a software update for the 520 but Garmin Express reflects the latest version
  • This sounds like either an update is not getting correctly applied or if it is it is not getting correctly reported on the Edge.

    I would suggest the following.

Connect the Edge to a PC and remove any files from the Garmin\RemoteSW folder.

    Also delete the
    Garmin\Device.fit and Garmin\GarminDevice.xml files.

Disconnect the Edge from the PC and let it restart. This will rebuild the 2 delete files from the Garmin folder.

Connect the Edge back to the PC and run Garmin Express to see if any updates are download.

You can check the GPS version by going to the Settings -> System -> About -> Copyright Information
