Firmware 6.0 update via BlueTooth broken

I have seen this morning that GarminConnect Mobile Android is trying to send the 6.0 firmware update to my Edge 520 via bluetooth.

First it started off saying that it had succeeded in sending the update, but the Edge itself had no knowledge of it. This repeated several times. I checked via my Linux PC what was on the filesystem and there was no xxx.gcd to be found, neither in the GARMIN nor the NewFiles directories. I did see a small .tmp file on the NewFiles directory so I removed it.

Now GC Mob keeps trying to sync and send the update but keeps failing. The syncing bar sometimes shows some progress to about 60% and sometimes shows no progress, but always ends with a "sync failed". The phone and the edge are right beside each other, so I cannot believe that it could be a poor BT connection.

Also I have thrice had to stop the edge trying to switch itself off while the transfer was being performed. This behaviour is plain wrong. The Edge MUST NEVER switch itself off while any form of sync is being performed.

I have just seen a send that reached about 90% before it failed - and immediately went back to "syncing" again - and after a delay of some tens of seconds showing no progress it failed again.

Come on Garmin - if you are going to supply a feature then make sure you DO provide it and not deliver something that is as flaky as a terminal case of dandruff
  • Same kind of problem here, unable to sync both on android bluetoth and from PC by cable , although I have the new software :-(
  • I also got a message via the Garmin Connect Mobile (android) app that an update was available. Although I got messages on the edge that something was downloading via bluetooth, nothing was really happening. I then saw another notification on my phone from Connect that the update was available and to load via Garmin Express. I hooked the Edge up via cable to my PC and the update did download. After it completed, I did get a message on the edge that the update was available and gave me the option to install or wait. I installed and everything seems to be functioning on 6.0. So far so good.
