520 keeps dropping the Speed and Cadence sensors.

Hi all,

I've been using the 520 for a few weeks and for the life of me I can't figure out why it keeps dropping the signal to the speed and cadence sensors. I'm using the ones that came with the bundle so they're separate devices unlike the GSC-10 I used to have. I haven't tested/noticed it on outdoor rides but since most of my weekday training is on on an indoor trainer with pre planned workouts, this is a bit of a deal breaker for me if I can't get it solved.

Link of this mornings workout showing it cutting in and out during my intervals

In previous workouts it would automatically auto-pause, I since then have turned that feature off.

(Saturday's trainer ride it was non-stop) https://www.strava.com/activities/414722987

Has anyone had this problem? Any help would be appreciated

Thanks!
  • SAME, sensors/BT drops

read all the posts, glad i'm not the only one! sensors(speed/cadence/power/HRM) and BT drops and connect like crazy, and sometimes works fine!! no apparent reason!!

GARMIN get your S$*% together, lots of unhappy cyclist including me !! hope this "case # 1178517" get resolved asap !!!

P.S. until Garmin fix this, it seems that disabling the "Call and Texts alerts" in the bluetooth menu fixes it (or disconnecting/forget this device "BLE_Edge 520" from the phone bluetooth menu) , for me at least !!! you won't get text/call alert obviously

I'm using Garmin hub mounted speed sensor, Garmin Vector 2S left pedal, Wahoo HRM, Iphone 6 iOS 9.2.
  • I haven't really noticed this before but ever since i upgraded the 520 to the latest firmware (3.10), i started to get ANT+ connectivity issue. On my 26-minute ride outdoor just now, the Edge 520 disconnected 10 times from all the ANT+ sensors (Quarq Elsa RS, Mio FUSE HRM), with the longest one lasting more than 25 seconds.
  • sensor drop issue

You'll see I've posted a few times since October 2015 on this issue. I was constantly dropping (more precisely, the 520 had a hell of time finding) a perfectly good cadence sensor. Garmin replaced my 520 with a new one and I've only dropped the speed or cadence sensor once or twice in the last 2 months. When this happened I turned off the 520 and turned it back on and it read the sensor normally. The 520 is an expensive piece of hardware. And its a great device, but it should just work! Call Garmin support and get them to replace it.

Painful - Sensors connect don't display 520 or GConnect

Same same. Lost Sensors on a turbo Bushido Tacx session.

Not finds Sensors doesn't display. Won't calibrate power on SRM nor Stages. Garmin won't help as third part ANT devices.

    Same for me

    same for me, connected/disconnected phone/sensors every 5sec.

Fix the problem => Turn off the BT on edge 520 and it's OK for sensors

Please Garmin, fix it ASAP

Same ANT+ Drops with Edge 520

I have a Stages PowerMeter and an old Garmin HRM (using a polar strap).

I avoid the drops by turning off the blue tooth on the Edge. I ride indoors with a computrainer. I have the iphone BT, wifi for my PC, and WiFI for the directTV all running with no issues due to interference. The issue is purely when the Edge BT is on.

I also have a Garmin 920 watch. The watch holds the BT connection to my Iphone 6 flawlessly. It does not hold the ANT+ connection to stages however (suggestion was to put it closer to the peddle / meaning closer than on my wrist which is certainly not practical).

I agree - having the BT connection when on the road was a compelling reason to buy the Edge. Hopefully a software fix will correct this.
