Garmin 520 syncing problems with ANT+ Stick & Macbook

Hi everyone,

I just got myself the 520 & its the first decent cycle computer I have had so please patient with me. I have managed to link the 520 to my iPhone 5 no problem at all, but as the 520 is ANT+ compatible I want to also link it to my Apple Macbook computer for setting up training & so on. I have bought myself the USB ANT+ Stick & then I downloaded Garmin Express, Garmin just say you plug it in & off it goes itself. I have check the preferences & my mac has already allowed the ANT+ to work but I just can't pair them. I also tried using Garmin ANT+ Agent & that did not work either, so I then decided to use the cable which works fine with my computer no problem. But I want to be able to use the ANT+ set up, any ideas on why it might not work??

Many thanks
  • It is not possible to communicate with the 520 via ANT+ from a PC for use with Garmin Express. The ANT+ support on the 520 is for communication with ANT+ sensors. You can use SimulANT to make the PC behave as a sensor for testing the Edge, but for accessing the file system on the Edge.

Oh really, thanks for this. I was lead to believe that the 520 could link to a computer. Thats a pain as I bought the 520 to use on my rollers with Zwift.
  • You can use the ANT+ stick to link sensors to Zwift, but not the Edge. The Edge in the most part is really just receiving data and not broadcasting it. It can send requests and configuration data to sensors as well as control some devices such as FE-C trainers, Garmin Virb and bike lights (Varia), but it currently does not retransmit and of the data it receives for use by another system using ANT.

Michael, I think you could use ANT+ sensors with Zwift, as many people do with Trainer road, however you can not let head unit connect directly to computer.
Edge will read sensors and probably Zwift software also same time, so you can save routine on both Mac and Edge.
