Bluetooth LE pairing issues with iOS 9 (BLE_Edge 520 won't pair)

I have an iPhone 6 running iOS 9 (13A344) I've been able to pair the regular bluetooth on my Edge 520 (software ver 2.30), so the device shows up in Garmin Connect and I can sync workouts. I have not been able to get the device to pair with the BLE_Edge 520 profile to enable call/text notifications. I have tried deleting the Edge profile in my bluetooth list, deleting the Garmin connect app, restarting both devices, and re-pairing. I have also tried some variations on those steps, all to no avail. I can get the basic pairing to work everytime, but I always get a 'connection took too long' error when I try to pair my device with the BLE_Edge 520 profile.

Any suggestions?

    Finally sorted. I think .....

Well, I think my saga is finally sorted.

After many phone calls back to the shop, I was told to return it (at my cost - grumble), and after almost 3 weeks, was told that there was no fault found, and ready for me to pick it up.

I called and tried to get some answers re what the tests they did were etc, but was told little info, and after a bit or argy bargy as to whether the fact that the head unit couldn't find the phone was an issue or nbot, it was returned.

In the meantime I had gotten a new phone (iPhone 5S), and when I tried to set it all up again on the new phone, guess what ?? SAME DAMN ISSUE !!!

I tried unpairing and re-pairing several times to no avail. Then did the full factory reset (as others have described in this thread), and it appears to have worked.

Now I just have to set up all the screens again and take it for a ride.

    Fingers crossed it worked.

    [sigh]

Oh, and when trying to explain the issue to the shop staff and that it was a common issue on the Garmin forum (and others), I was told that "not everything on the internet is true".:mad: . REALLY !!!!!
  • Had same issue - iPhone 6s (worked fine on my 5s). Did a factory reset and it paired instantaneously after I paired the BT part.

Factory reset worked fine but a bit of hassle.

**FIX** for Bluetooth LE pairing issues with iOS 9 (BLE_Edge 520 won't pair)

    Hello amigos,

I was having issues with my Garmin 520 and iPhone 6s with Bluetooth LE pairing issues with iOS 9.1, I recall having this same issue with my iPhone 6, after reading some of the other commends on this thread I realized that the best thing to do was to do a Device Reset directly from my Garmin 520 as some others suggested, but the thing that had me holding back was having to set up my Activity Profiles Data Screens and some other device settings. Luckily I was also able to find a guide on how to back up all those settings before doing the Device Reset.

    Here is what I did:

    0. Removed the Garmin Edge from my bluetooth devices under iPhone Settings/Bluetooth

    1. Followed this guide to backup all my settings first: https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7B87d71a10-4ac5-11e2-e8a7-000000000000%7D

    2. Did a Device Reset Menu/Settings/System/Device Reset

    3. After the device started up again I followed most of the prompts to set up the device like when it was new, when I got to the Bluetooth pairing part I was happy to see that my BLE was now working :)

    4. Following the same guide to backup my Garmin I then restored the files again following this guide: https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7B87d71a10-4ac5-11e2-e8a7-000000000000%7D

    5. Restarted the Garmin and bam my Garmin's BLE worked and all my old settings were all there.

    6. Enjoy the ride.

Garmin 520 and iPhone 6+ pairing
I bought a 520 for a replacement bike a month or so ago for the auto sync feature, however pairing is inconsistent. I have done a factory reset, however the pairing failures have been reappearing. I have tried re-installing the iPhone Garmin app, reconfiguring the 520 etc. Using the Garmin uploader on the computer for uploading files via cable to the computer seems to be the most reliable way to save data to GC. 520 software is still the latest version, not sure which though.
Kudos for the automatic Garmin Connect to Strava link. Still works as well as it did for my older 800 unit which was stolen along with my bike unfortunately.

Factory reset 520 to get my new iPhone 6s to BLE pair

I followed the instructions from MANUELPRADO and it worked perfectly. Garmin's software is never seamless, but it usually has a fix. Thanks to all contributors to this thread.

    Another method

    Hi

I was capable of resolving without wiping all, just doing this:

    1. deleting my edge 520 bluetooth profile at iphone bluetooth control panel
    2. unpair/delete iphone in edge system options
    3. reinstall garmin connect app
    4. sync again as done first time

    Hope it helps

    Best Regards
