Edge 130 shows speed and cadence but does not show distance.

I have an older Garmin speed and cadence sensor on the left chainstay of my bike. This worked fire for many years with my old Garmin Edge 500 (which i lost) and my Edge 130 which I bought last year. Today the Edge 130 showed my speed and my cadence and recorded .06 mile distance. I stopped for a moment and after I restarted it didn't show or record any distance but accurately showed speed and cadence.. I put a new battery in the sensor when I came home and it still didn't record distance. I shut off GPS and it still shows speed and cadence but not distance. I deleted the 4 files that were in the Activities folder and it still doesn't show distance.

Any thoughts on how to fix this problem?

You are definitely in gps off mode, I accidentally turned gps off and noticed despite that speed is showing

This happened twice to me over the last few weeks. I'm pretty proficient in operation of the device in the areas I use. I strongly suspect that garmin messed something up with that function in the last few updates. (why can't the leave good enough alone...)
