What is white arrow on map view when following course? (Edge 130, v3.00)

Could someone please tell me what the white arrow is on the map view when following a course? An example can in the lower left of the attached photo.

This course was created by taking a GPX from Strava, trimming it down with GPS Track Editor to a single lap, saving it, then copying it to the NEWFILES folder on the Edge 130 and letting the unit ingest it.

I somewhat believe this is a Virtual Partner, but I felt like I was riding much slower during this test than when I recorded the route so I'm not sure. The GPX file has timestamps and speed on each point of the course, so the data is there for a Virtual Partner to be shown, but again, it seems too slow.

One arrow is you (black) the other is the VP (white).

Thanks. May I ask how you know this?

Do you know how its speed is determined, and if it can be turned off (or sidestepped -- maybe with timestamp-less GPXs)? I don't care about VP, I just want to follow a line to stay on the intended route.

The unridden sections of the course are shown as a white trail with a black boarder while the ridden sections are all black. The 2 arrows match this color coding.

On the 130 you cannot switch the VP off, but what you can do on the site you created the course is to change the speed of the VP so that it is either very slow or very fast. That way soon after you start the course VP will no longer be in view, depending on the zoom level you have on the map. The VP speed comes from the timestamps in the course file.

The white arrow is pointing to North - just a standard map reference. VP has a bit smaller arrow than the arrow representing your position.

That's not the arrow he was talking about, it's the white and black arrow on the course not the one top left ;)

It's still a mystery to me, just like the location that the full screen arrow points to when you're not navigating to a point.

Note that you cannot keep the VP out of view by removing time information (e.g. by using bandcamp tracks): as soon as you leave the route a little and join again, the white arrow reappears and maintains some unknown speed.
