12.11 major bug- if light sensor disconnects, endless prompts, no way out

Got a nice endless loop going. 1040 can't find my Bontrager headlight, and gives a perpetual sensor disconnected alert (both visual and highly-annoying beep). And screen input is USELESS because nothing can get past the sensor disconnect prompt. You click it and there's another one with no chance to hit anything else on the screen. You can't even turn it off. Hit the power button and you'll change to the relevant screen, but you still can't get past the sensor disconnect alert, which requires you to click it to make it go away, after which another one appears... over and over and over.

Finally got past it by holding down all three buttons. It rebooted and came back up without the sensor warning. In fact, it even appears to have deleted offending sensor. h

  • Happens to me with RTL515, as soon as I turn on the light. It just quickly cycles the light disconnected warning and beeps. If I get the timing right, I can go up the sensors menu and disable the light, which works (the radar continues to work). I just switched from a 530, and love the 1040, but this is aggravating and means I'm gonna leave the light on soon enough (manually operating it)

  • I had this fun little bug last week. It happened after I tried adding my Varia to the Varia app on my iPhone in addition to my Edge.

I tried holding the power button to reset the Edge, and that managed to trigger an emergency alert that was sent to my wife, which I couldn't cancel because the light disconnected message kept popping up.

About 30 seconds after it sent the alert, the entire Edge crashed and rebooted. I was still getting the disconnect message though, and my light network kept failing and restarting itself, causing my headlight to go nuts. I was able to fix it by removing the Varia bluetooth connection from my phone, removing the Varia from the light network, and then re-adding it.

  • I have the same issue. I was riding a 100 mile organize ride and I was unable to see my current speed since the endless popped up message interfiere with the reading …. Today I was riding 42 miles and again I was in the same situation

  • I had this happen today on my 1040 solar with the Garmin Varia light.  So annoying that it would beep constantly and then I could not get out of it until after my ride.  This was only my second ride with the 1040, so was not sure what was going on.  Sounds like I should

  • It seems I had this similar issue with my new 1040 solar today with the Varia light.  I kept getting an error "the light is disconnected from the network."  It would not stop and I could not get out of the screen until I ended my ride as noted above.  This was only my second ride with the 1040 so was pretty disappointed and frustrated.  I will try to reboot and disconnect the light and then add it again.

  • Hello , try removing the lights/radar from the Edge in the list of sensors and then add them as new.

  • And this issue will repeat again and again while Garmin team not fix big problem with sensors

  • I did the re-add, and I think one of the software updates, and it has not re-curred in 11 months. And I use it essentially daily outside of winter months. So while it shouldn't occur, it does seem to be a solid fix.

To clarify: I do all the updates, but I think one of the updates was actually targetted at this problem

  • Not sure what garmin is doing but from days onwards I not only got the lights disconnected issue but also now the rally (they even measured).
I was one of the few with almost not visibile dropout, and now eve non the same firmware from a month it keeps on popping, every sensor (hrm pro, varia, rally 200).
