Edge 1030 - Please disable Virtual Partner

Garmin Edge 1030 - Please  disable Virtual Partner

From what I have reviewed on the forums I am not the only user who does not like to see the Virtual Partner on the map while navigating.

I'd rather see the whole map than that feature taking up the screen.

Please, Garmin engineers, update the software with this simple function:
Virtual partner: Yes
Virtual partner: No

Surely there are other users with the same opinion as mine.
Thank you for your attention.
Regards

  • If the option to enlarge the current position marker could be reinstated, then I think that would resolve many of the complaints about Virtual partner. Or even make the Virtual partner marker smaller would help especially on the elevation screen. Yes, there should be a option to turn it off but someone at Garmin seems to like it.

  • To disable VP try this option

Select Menu symbol   > Activity Profiles > Select a profile > Select Alerts (disabled)

  • The alerts have nothing to do with the VP. There are about 7 alert settings and none are related to the VP. The VP simply cannot be disabled at the present time.

  • You don't have to answer without trying.
The alerts setting is "active" by default (even without activating alerts)
You disable that option and then come back here.

  • Umm, do you even have a 1030? There's no ability to disable "Alerts" generally -- The only choice is to disable on an individual basis any one or more of the 9 different alert settings under the category -- none of which, as cheracogoff correctly noted, have anything to do with Virtual Partner. Why did you assume cheracogoff didn't try? Frankly, it seems to me you are wasting everyone's time by posting a supposed "solution" that doesn't exist. Trust me, I've been all over the 1030 -- there is no way to disable Virtual Partner unless you use a third-party route building option that lets you set the speed of VP separately (e.g., DynamicWatch) so it goes super slowly or super fast -- and therefore you never see it.

Interestingly, the Garmin "Explore" series of units does NOT have VP at all -- so they know how to take it out of their software if they want to do so.

  • I really like the virtual partner and I don't want to disable it!

I have proposed a test / solution because you are complaining.

As you see it is active in default, even if I have all warnings OFF.
Come back here after disabling and ride bike.

  • All of my alerts have always been turned off and I still see the VP. Are you saying that when you are following a course the VP does not show on the map or on the elevation profile? If so, then you have a very unique 1030.

  • Found a work around - I plan all my Routes in Komoot.  in Garmin connect app select courses, find course you are going to follow. 3 dots R/H corner, opens menu. You need to duplicate the route. Back to course list and select Copy of….. select same 3 dots and edit, scroll down to bottom and put average speed to1 km/hr ( just my choice), I then rename course and save. I have Never seen that irritating VP grey arrow again.

I then delete the original course which is usually got average speed default set at 25km/hr

it’s a bit of a faff but worth it ,

  • Done thanks,I hate this 'feature' which has often caused me to take a wrong turn.

  • Works, thanks, but only if the course originated via Garmin Connect , does not work if course was loaded via NewFiles / usb cable. Would be a lot easier and more universal if the “speed” field in the Course summary could be edited directly on the edge device itself. PS you don’t have to duplicate the course as you can change the target speed in GCM directly, and then re-sync.
