  1. Connect your Edge 1030 device to your computer using the micro-USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Edge1030_1025Beta.zip and place the GUPDATE.gcd file in the \Garmin folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the Edge, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE_1020.GCD file in the \Garmin folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device.
NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • Update went fine.

But when I connect the 1030 to the PC it crash (black/white screen).

So at the moment it's not possible to connect it to the PC and forexample update maps or revert back to 10.20.

While its connected to the PC I cannot interact with the unit. I have to take it out the usb cable and the I can push the power button and it will reboot.

So I need to figure out a way to transfer the old 10.20 files or I have to wait for the final firmware (with a fix for this) and hopfully it will transfer automatic to the unit through Wifi or the bluetooth connection.

So for now I can't recommend to try this update.

    Update with video:

    Video: https://youtu.be/rbrDnCYVajY

So at the moment I can't even give you the logfile for it.

  • Thank you for posting Rasmustj!

I was very excited and eager to start with the CIQ 3.2 workout features. But as this is not possible to test with the simulator, I need to sideload my application to test it on the device. The connection with the pc for that is a necessity.

I will have to wait for a new version or others who do not have your problem.

You probably guarded me from a worse dissappointment, thanks again.

  • Same here (Win10 Pro 1909). Didn't find a workaround till now. Tried connecting the 1030 with and without Garmin Express already running. But it ended always in a crash like described by Rasmustj.

Beside i had no problems on todays 5 hour ride with fw 10.25.

  • can you please elaborate , what is CIQ workout?

  • I can confirm this issue , when 1030 if first connected with pc via USB, it is charging, after it is enter in mass file storage then device shut down

In error log, I have several RTL trap for today

    R0 022EB2A0

    R101EFD254

    ERN 6E5D8012

  • If you have WiFi enabled on the edge try turning it off before connecting to the computer

  • I have WIFI off and is the same

I have also tried with WIFI on and same, it is shutting down :)

  • Connect IQ (CIQ) is the environment that Garmin provides to developers. Everyone can make a program in the provided program language and upload the program to the connectIQ store or just "side"-load it to (put it with a file explorer on) your own device.

If a program is uploaded to the Store, everyone has access to it and can load it to his/her device.

A developer is limited by the features that are supported by the hardware, but also by the firmware of the device.

Firmware 10.20 of the 1030 supports CIQ version 3.1 while the beta version 10.22 supports CIQ 3.2. However, the 10.22 version did not yet support all features of CIQ 3.2, only the basic ones. With the beta version 10.25 our devices support CIQ 3.2 features for workouts.

This means that a developer/programmer now has access to information about the current workout. For example, I (my program) could ask the device the current workout-step bottom and top targets, calculate the average and show that to the user. Or ask what the next workoutstep is and show it already to the user to prepare. And so on.

So this has impact in what you can program yourself for your own device and what others can program for our device.

  • @krazyone If it shuts down when entering in mass storage, how did you access the error log ?
