Any way to add Trailforks/Forksight functionality to 1030?

So now that we’ve got the rest of the firmware upgrades from the 530 and 830, is there a way to add in the integrated Trailforks mapping and Forksight functionality?

  • There is a ConnectIQ app for Trailforks, I've downloaded it, but haven't tested it.

  • I’ve installed it, but I think there’s more to the Trailforks integration on the 530/830 than the app, which has existed for awhile.

  • On the 530/830 there is also a specific trailforks map

  • Yes, I think the map file is Trailsforks 2019.10 and gives you all the Trailforks maps for the whole world. But this map file does not appear to be available for download - only the individual state and regional maps that have been available for years from the Trailforks website. And what I don’t know is whether just adding the maps enables the “Forksight” functionality in the map view on the 1030.

  • Still looking into this...

When you’ve set up an activity profile with default ride type “Mountain”, there is a “Mountain Biking” menu added to the settings. On the 530/830, one of the options on this new menu is “Forksight” but that option is missing on the 1030 (though the other new mtb options are present).

So does this mean that Forksight simply doesn’t work on the 1030, or will the option appear if I load a Trailforks map? And does it matter whether it is the global Trailforks map included with the 530/830 or the state maps available on the Trailforks website?

  • Yes foresight is not on the 1030 and likely never will.

  • Why never? Hard to believe there is a technical limitation, since it seems every other feature from the 530/830 has been ported. More likely a licensing issue, and that seems solvable.

  • The Edge 1030 does not have the Trailforks map that is used on the Edge 530/830 that gives you Forksight. Unfortunately this will not be added to the Edge 1030. However you can get some of the functionality by using the Trailforks CIQ app.

  • That’s disappointing! If it’s a question of licensing the map, why not give 1030 owners the option to pay the licensing fee to unlock the map? That would not seem to be very complex technically. Or is there actually a technical limitation of the 1030, beyond the map itself?
