My Garmin Edge 1030 is locked in “Loading courses, workouts, and locations”. Tried to connect the device to my computer but it would not recognize the device. What should I do?
If your unit is stuck trying to boot, then the following may work...
to force to mass storage mode Mount the unit to the computer, you may need to use a force mount (see below). Remove any files that maybe in the Garmin\NewFiles folder.
Force to Mass Storage - Turn unit off. Hold the lap/reset button while plugging the unit into the USB. Continue holding the lap/reset for 30 seconds and the unit should go to mass storage.
This usually happen when you have bad files in the NewFiles folder and the Edge cannot digest them. Could be another kind of corruption. Try the suggestions here and if that fails call Garmin support.
Thank-you for the tip, that worked for me. There were 300 .fit files in my NewFiles folder - maybe from the Strava Routes app. Cleared them out, and I'm back in business.

I have the same issue. Whenever I try the forced shutdown, it just comes back with the loading courses etc. My computer does not recognise the Garmin. Any tips?
