Edge 1030 Odometer reset

Please Please PLEASE re-integrate the odometer function to the Edge 1030.  Just using the gear function in Garmin Connect does not work!  I have seen multiple complaints from people like me who just spent a bunch of money on a device that is basically useless.  some people like to track total mileage and see it on the device.  I like to track annual mileage and reset on Jan 1 each year for each bike profile.  As of now I'm going to have to keep using my Edge 810 until it dies because it does what I need it to do.  Garmin it doesn't make sense to remove functionality from newer devices.  I also imagine there are people who don't use Garmin Connect at all so this device won't work for them either.

  • The Edge 1030 does have a Odometer that is shown for each activity profile and a total mileage for the Edge (within History>Totals). But as you are aware, bike profiles similar to the Edge 810 are not tracked on the Edge 1030. You could use a different activity profile for each bike if you are simply wanting to track the mileage when using a different bike.

  • If you sync to Strava then it's done for you, open Strava using a web browser, not the app, under settings > my gear you'll see all your bike profiles along with their mileage. You can add new components each year if you want to count the yearly total for each bike.

I use this feature to see how many miles my tyres and chains have done.

  • That's how I do it. I have a activity profile for each bike. Works great.

  • Every other bike computer even the $20 ones allow you to enter the odometer value so you can keep track of total miles on the bike.  Please add this to the garmin  530

  • Indeed!

I've had an Edge 800 for years. Decided to upgrade..

Now I have a 1030, and besides a screen that 10% of the male population can't read (due to impaired color vision), even basic functions are not available.

    Not a happy cutomer!

  • "That's exactly how I do it too - "...

EDIT: Hi All.  Contrary to my previous comment, I realised that I actually track my bike odo differently to this.  I used to track on the device itself, but that started to get too restrictive as I can use different bikes for the same types of activities.  So the way I do this now is to track each bike's mileage as 'Gear' within Garmin Connect.  One bike is setup as default bike for rides; when I return from the ride if I didn't use the 'default' bike, I just edit the ride and change the bike (gear) accordingly.  I have reset my 1030 only twice since I have owned it, but tracking the bike total ride distance in Connect has the added benefit that resetting the Edge device will not have any impact on the Gear mileage.

    Hope this helps someone.

  • I agree - for a device of this category it should be possible to reset the odometers of all profiles.

    (I do it with fitfile-repairtool)

  • I am in the exact same situation. My trusty Edge 810 is being replaced by a 1030. I have 4 bikes with various mileages I have kept track on the 810 for years - and a Garmin 700 before that. Is there still no way to edit an odometer in the 1030 profile?

Can this be accomplished though Garmin Connect? Do I really need a 1030, or should I find an old stock 810?

This is pretty frustrating. Thanks in advance.

  • This is my totals.fit file using the above editor and converting to csv file. The gear profile named Phantom is the only one with any mileage. The total on the odometer is 43.7 miles. This consists of two casual rides today. One was 40.0 and the other 3.66. Looking at the  file from Garmin 1030, I am at a loss as to what anything means, never mind trying to edit the odometer for my total usage.
