Garmin Edge 1030 not detected by Windows 10

I'm running Windows 10 and for some reason it will not detect my Garmin Edge 1030 in Windows Explorer. It I plug my Fenix 5S Plus in Windows does detect it and then I can use Garmin Express to download IQ fields.

Any suggestions on getting the 1030 to work with Windows 10?
  • Try another USB cable, a known good one.
  • Once you find a cable that works make sure you label it, I have 100s of micro USB cables and always struggle to find one that does data as opposed to just charging.
  • The cheaper USB cables are only charging and are not for data...
  • If you‘re not sucsessful with different cables, try to force your Edge in mass-storage-mode:
    turn off your Edge
press and hold the lap-button (left button)
plug in the device to your PC - continue pressing lap-button until your device is connected.
  • Wow, it was a bad USB cable! I'm a bit surprised because this is the one that came with my unit and I would have thought that Garmin would source higher quality cables.
  • If you call them odd are good they will just send you another one. USB cables are so check now a day that I dont know if it would be worth your time to get on the phone and have them send you another. Heck, I have a drawer full of them.
  • Hi, I have the same problem but a little different.

just bought an edge 1030. I tried it with ma laptop but windows 10 doesn’t recognize it. My fenix 5 plus works fine.

So i tried different cables with no success. Next step was to try another laptop (my wife’s one)- no succes. So I tried it with laptop number three (my laptop from work), and what shall I say - it worked?!? Always used the same cable...

Next step was to try a new firmware but this didn’t change anything.

usb drivers are up to date, the only difference is the version of win 10. On my working laptop I have not the latest version.

Any suggestions? Btw, syncing with my iPhone works without problems.

    Thanks,

    Daniel
  • Yep,  I tried another cable and it detected it right away.  Thanks.

  • I'm using the OOB cable as well and it's not working.  For that much $$$ what a joke.  Washed out colors on screen, bad cables.  Can't install third party apps.  Garmin needs to get their sheet together.  I bought a Virb years ago and it stopped working about 2 years in.  I guess $500 doesn't get you far with Garmin products.  Disappointed beyond measure with the quality crash with Garmin gear.

  • Curious as to what a OOB cable is? Are you saying you can't install Connect IQ app through the mobile app? Works fine for me.
