Edge 1030 and Shimano Steps-E8000

Starting from firmware 6.00 there should be a new feature: "New Feature: Added Shimano STEPS sensor support.". I have a Scott Genius eRide 900 Tuned, equipped with a Shimano Steps-E8000 motor and XT Di2 system, I have tried to connect to my Edge 1030. Actually the only ANT device that the Edge can find is a "Di2" device, not the Steps motor. Out of all the possible metrics I could get (speed, cadence, gear, motor battery, power, assistance level, etc.) the only one I get is "Di2 battery", that actually is the motor battery (as in my case the Di2 is powered by the motor battery). I was expecting much more, for example the Steps motor to be recognized as an eBike, in addition cadence and speed should be transmitted to the Edge

Anyone experiencing the same?

When can we expect to have full support of the Shimano Steps-E8000 motor?

As far I can tell (I have no Steps motor e-bike) you need EW-EN100 from Shimano to get all that ANT+ data.

From the Shimano web site https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/product/component/city---trekking-e-bike-e6100-series/EW-EN100.html it looks like EW-EN100 is an accessory for series 6100 and not E8000.

I have a Steps E8000 bike with Di2 and I've tried connecting a EW-EN100. You do have to disconnect the display (it's basically one or the other, can't use both). Unfortunately I can't test what information it sends as it won't connect to my Edge 1000.

At some point maybe Shimano will update the firmware of the E8000 display so it will send the same ANT+ info as the EW-EN100 (and the same as the E7000 display).

Then hoping Garmin will update the Edge 1000 software so it is also compatible.

I have a Merida One sixty 900E, with XT DI2. I have not been able to connect to my Garmin Edge 1030 either, very disappointing.

Did anybody get any further with this??

Just got my Focus Jam2 with E8000 and I already have the Edge 1030, so I'm very keen to get this up and running. Especially looking to be able to see (human) power (watts) on the edge. And log it, so it trickles into Strava and my fitness/form calculation there... So basically using the build-in torque sensor in the E8000 as a power meter.

I've upgraded to an Edge 1030 now, and love using it with the EW-EN100. You do get extra information from the bike like cadence, speed, assist mode, battery % as well as the gear with Di2.

But unfortunately no power information - Shimano just don't seem to share those values. I've seen a good suggestion to use something like Stages power cranks instead: https://www.emtbforums.com/community/threads/new-garmin-edge-with-shimano-steps-integration.1023/

Hi Orlando, it is fairly easy to do.

First off I recommend checking this thread on another forum (EMTB Forums) where we have posted pictures and other information (and it is much easier to post replies there if you have more questions!): https://www.emtbforums.com/community/threads/ew-en100-junction-a.2697/

But here is a brief description:

If you have Di2 then you will also need a SM-JC41 Junction in order to increase the number of available connections. Your current STEPS display will have 3 inputs: assist mode switch, Di2 gear switch & the STEPS motor - but the EW-EN100 only has 2 inputs.

The easiest way to do it in your case is to disconnect your display (which can then be removed from the bike after you know everything is working) and plug the connections from that into the SM-JC41 Junction. Then you connect one end of the EW-EN100 to the 4th slot on the SM-JC41 Junction. (Note you may need to buy an extra cable of your chosen length - search for "Di2 EW SD50 Cable").

It should now basically work for you, and you should be able to connect your Edge 1030 wirelessly to the bike.

You can do more complicated setups if you purchase other SD50 cables of the correct length: you can position the EW-EN100 and SM-JC41 wherever you like on the bike. So currently I have the SM-JC41 hidden in the down tube of my bike, and then that is connected to the motor, the assist mode switch and one end of the EW-EN100. The other end of the EW-EN100 is then connected to the Di2 shifter.

It really makes the cockpit nice and clean. You have a great display with the Edge 1030 when you want it, or you can ride without any display on the handlebars as well!
