Known issue that 1030 registers too few vertical feet?

Is it a known issue that the Edge 1030, or similarly newer Garmin bike computer, registers to few vertical feet climbed? I have ridden with my 1030 for 6+ months, done tons of climbing, and a pattern seems pretty clear. Compared to my my old Edge 800 and route planning tools, such as Strava, the 1030 records notably less vertical feet climbed. Same applies to my riding buddies. On a ride with 6000'-10000' vertical feet the ones with older Garmins will record about 1000' more vertical feet, and the older Garmins will be in-line with expected vertical feet from the planning tool. You will have guys with new Garmins that went up further on difficult climbs record less vertical feet than those with older Garmins who did not go up as far. This seems to be a general trend, and hence, is not device specific. Just yesterday I rode White Mountain off 395 (CA) at Big Pine that goes up to just over 10,100' - the Edge 1030 didn't even get max altitude reasonably correct, registered 9,700' or so... (even have a picture of me at the 10,000' marked on the road) and again it registered about 600' too few vertical feet climbed for the ride. What's the deal with this...? Can it be fixed with a setting change I am not aware of?
  • Not to me. I went back to 6 years of riding the same route 61 mile climb and my 1030 was within 200 feet of the 5200 foot climb of the all the others starting with an Edge 500 through the 510 and 520 along with a few Forerunner watches recording the same ride. It was right in the middle of the lowest and highest readings.

Hmm... How different from what the Strava route planning tool says for the ride?
  • This problem happens to me with the MTB. If I use a speed sensor, when the wheel doesn't turn or go at too low speed, it doesn't add climbing meters. the old devices add it when the wheel turned again. Perhaps it was done voluntarily to not calculate the cableways, funiculars, etc ...

Hmm... Interesting. Though, the road climbing speed is not below 7'ish mph even when steep, I think, and that shouldn't be low enough for it to pause, I would hope. Garmin? Any input?
