What is the point of Wifi on 1030?

Does wifi do anything for anybody on the 1030? It connects to both my wifi network and bluetooth to my phone and I have one *** of a time getting my 1030 synced. Wifi, seems to do nothing. Through bluetooth, GCM takes forever to complete a sync (10 minutes) and most the time it says it completes a sync, it actually syncs nothing. After hours of messing with it after every ride, I have to connect it via usb to get it to sync.

My 1000, for a while at least until some build broke wifi, would upload my ride automatically through wifi when I was still in my driveway and as soon as I saved the ride. Is anyone else having trouble syncing the 1030?

    That's exactly how it worked on my 820 - it didn't :)
So I don't even bother on 1030, BT works fine for the most part.
  • Mine seems to sporadically upload automatically (i.e. not often), but I can never rely on it. It's frustrating to have to find a PC to connect it to all the time.
  • WiFi reliably uploads my activities to Garmin web site. I have my BT connection switched off permanently and WiFi uploads activity within a few seconds (contrary to BT which I used before). I use BT from time to time especially when I need to download a course.
  • Maybe there is something stupid in their software that it won't work with bluetooth enabled? I'll have to try that next time I ride.
  • So I haven't tested disabling bluetooth on an actual ride yet, but I did start a test activity (10 seconds in length) and saved it and it immediately synced through wifi w/ bluetooth turned off. So it seems that if bluetooth is enabled, it tries to sync through it first and either hangs, or doesn't even try wifi.
