Silicone cover

Small gripe ... I really wish Garmin would have the silicone cover for the 1030 available when the unit itself is available.

Garmin's site shows the lead time is 5-8 weeks ... and no other sellers have it available.
  • This screen protector is the best I have used on any of the devices I have owned and I had it on my 1000. Made of tempered glass, the installation is flawless (no bubbles), no fine scratches from use and it is absolutely crystal clear, none of these features found with the dreadful plastic versions. I'm hoping the manufacturer will make them for the 1030 as well. My two emails to them have not resulted in a reply.

  • Thanks for the info I will look in to these if they start making them
I have since found some screen protectors on Ebay for the 1030 so have ordered those to start and at only ?2.99 for 12 won't break the bank lol

I actually think this is my favorite silicon case yet and I've owned garmin cases for my 810, 820 and 1000. This new case doesn't cover the bottom side as much and is more like a bumper type case but the edges are much thicker and look like they'd offer more protection from a fall.

What issues are people having with this case?
  • This case is a joke

I've had no problems at all with mine. I can't see how it could fall off, unless it wasn't fitted properly.

I kind of wish it had coverage on the bottom, but other than that it's fine.

  • knee or branch ...?, if I had seen it I would'nt have lost it

But I have found one with bottom cover on alternative seller, then I do'nt lost it
  • While I think the new "case" is overpriced for the amount of silicone, it is of better quality and design than previous Garmin cases. I've never used any Garmin without one but more material doesn't necessarily provide more protection. As a result of a crash, a flimsy Garmin case didn't stay on and an upper corner of my 1000 was ground down. The case (or edge band) for the 1030 is thicker, not so flimsy as previous cases, and fits tightly around the perimeter. I think this is a better design and will actually protect the vulnerable area of the device.

For those looking also to cover the back, unnecessary IMO, keep in mind that any backing will cover up the small holes which function to transmit various audible alerts. They are no longer located in the circular mount area.

  • My main reason for having a silicone cover is to provide a lip around the edge of the unit so, if I place the unit display side down, the screen isn't sitting on the surface and doesn't scratch the screen.

For this purpose, the 1030's cover is just fine.
