Strava old routes not syncing

Just upgraded to the 1030+

Noticed that if I unstar & then restar a Strava route it is *not* syncing back to the device.  Same behavior on my Fenix 5X

Oddly, if I duplicate the course, save as a new name, and then star it - works perfectly.  New routes that are stared also work fine.

Thoughts?  I don't have many, so not a big deal.  But curious if others had this issue.

  • I just got a brand new Edge 1030+ and it has the same problem. It worked on my old Edge 1030 if I just unstarred and starred one of my old courses. But it doesn't work on the 1030+!

  • At the end of 2021, with up to date firmware, I still see this bug on 1030+ ...

Thanks for suggesting a workaround (duplicate course), it works.

  • I have been struggling with this on the new 530 I received after the original was replaced under warranty.  Only newly created routes will sync making my existing library of routes useless.

  • I saw this on my 1030 when replaced under warranty. It seems that once a route has been uploaded to the device, it will not try to upload again (even to a new device). This is a function of how the back end is programmed to do the sync…and I’d guess that what looks like an easy fix is in fact not. I’m not a programmer, so I don’t know…

What I do know is that you can manually sync/upload old routes that were previously sync’d. I've done it with a 100% success rate many times. Just go into the app, and tap the three horizontal dots at the bottom (captioned “More”) and then tap Training in that menu, then select Courses. then select the route you want and tap the three vertical dots on the top right and “Send to Device.” Works like a charm and takes about 30 seconds.

  • Thanks for the tip!  I didn't realize that all my Strava routes would show up in the Garmin app.  This is a lifesaver!

  • Routes are only sent once after they are starred. If you get a new unit of need to resend them then just unstar and re-star a course. That will force it to get resent.

  • yeah, that didn't work. tried many times.  So far the only thing that works is to duplicate the route in Strava and starring it, or doing the trick mentioned above in the garmin app.

  • You can also go the Garmin Connect and select the course and use the send to device.

You can likely just modify the course slightly by moving the start and end point by a small amount and save it. This way it gets regenerated rather than having to create a duplicate.
