Edge 1000 folders

I stupidly formatted the drive of my Edge 1000 unit while trying to do a map update instead of formatting sd card.

Can i just copy folders from another unit and paste back into my unit?

Where can i get hold of these.

Seems a shame just to bin it!

I have tried to create a garmin folder and dowloaded GUPDATE.GCD. Tried reboots with and without usb but failed.

just confirming that as at 5 Feb 2020, the instructions here from VPRide and stapes789 still work. Thank you both and paulhirst68 for raising this issue and solving it.

Well after several weeks of trying I gave up and sent to a friend before VPRides post. who also failed but his friend had one for £100 which I purchased. On receiving them both back yesterday I followed VPs instructions and to my surprise it worked. Happy chappie

The only thing I would add to the VPRide and stapes789's instructions is that I had to unmount the disk first, so:

on Terminal:

diskutil unmount /dev/disk5

(my garmin was listed as disk5)

and then on to

sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/disk5 bs=8192

and then the switch to a windows pc as stapes789 mentioned.

I hope you can reply Ive done the same thing formatted the device (Edge 1000)

I’ve only got access to a Mac to do this do I have to have a windows pc?

I’m desperate to get my garmin to work again.

Hi,

No you don't need a Windows PC, if you follow the instructions above with the Green heading from me which I amended with all the comments in this thread on your Mac it should work. Its much easier with a PC as it doesnt add the offending data when you accidentally format your device.

Be very careful as per the instructions not to format your Mac by mistake.

Thanks for your quick response

I’ve followed it so far

diskutil list then enter

i then got drive information my HDD is disk0 and it also shows disk2

my garmin is disk3

ah it’s just finished running the following command

$sudo dd if=/dev/zero of-disk3 bs=8192

it then took a while to complete, so do I just reboot?
