Finally, I solved the problem - I bought the Stryd. Precise and instant pace and distance are just awesome (I'm not belong to Stryd but really :) Their "power" concept seems also great.
Just FYI, I have contacted Garmin regarding the issue…
You can use the up and down keys to scroll through each of your chosen data screens. The map zoom level is adjustable too. Yes, it will take a while to work everything out. I'd suggest experimenting with different settings on short test rides to work…
Be very careful with Garmin Connect, I occasionally use it the same way that you mention how you use it but mainly to get the elevation data and it is very easy to add extra distance. How it happens, I am not sure but it has something to do with clicking…
