I have tried Firefox 3.5.1 and Safari 4.0.3, with identical results. Cache clearing doesn't change anything.

Clear cache works

I was having this problem too, with a 305.
Clearning the cache solved the problem

Reset and try again

I had the same problem initially, even though I was using the most recent version of the ANT agent.

I held the two buttons down on the forerunner 405 until it reset, and then tried a second time to download the firmware upgrade.…

I have left it on once as well. Sucks but really user error. I use mine monthly over night to track resting and recovery HR and I would prefer it not to turn off.
I know, you could have it turn off only when not recording, then someone will forget…

Call and ask garmin how much..
It may be cheaper to just bite the bullet, and buy a new GPS
