Marq Athlete wrong elevation

Former Member

I've got a recurent problem with my Garmin Marq Athlete which announces elevation gain that are completely wrong.

For instance, I've ran yesterday and, according on my watch, I have 1904 meters elevation gain in 6km !

The true elevation gain is around 200 meters.

These are the graphics Garmin give me  :

As I can see, there are some "holes" in my run.

For information, I'm doing a run activity (not a trail run activity).

My watch seems up to date : Software version 9.00, Sensor Hub 5.07, GPS 4.40 Maps :

Is there something to set in order to have an accurate elevation or at least a more precise elevation ?

Thanks in advance to help me.

  • Those dips are what give you the excessive elevation (obviously).  What were the weather conditions of your run?

I would try updating to the latest beta/release candidate just to see if it gets more accurate.  If it happens again, I'd definitely let support know....

  • I’ve the exact same issue on my Marq Expedition during cycling activities.
For about 10 months I’m cycling the same track every one or two weeks. The true elevation gain for that track is approx. 191m but data shows gains up to 2367m! The issue has been there since I started recording tracks in August 2019 and is still present.
Looking back in the activity history there are “holes” in the tracks almost every month since. I guess that 40% of the recorded tracks show this issue.
The watch has always been auto updated and looking at the sw version at the time of recording, the issue has been present on sw v3.50, 4.10, 6.00, 7.10, 8.10 and 9.00.

As far as I remember the weather conditions during cycling were pretty stable.

Below an example of steep “holes” during on of the cycling activities. Track length is 63km.

Ok thank you for the links. I'll try to calibrate manually the elevation.

As DeeD, the problem often occurs and the example I've given is only one.

As far as I remember, the weather was fine, no rain for the given example.

    Hello,

I have tried to change the barometic altimeter as indicated by this link  : https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/marqexpedition/EN-US/GUID-BC734846-01A7-4F33-86D4-DFBDBC06CDB4.html

    1) With a manual calibration, still the same problem. Example with this run :

The right elevation should be like that (example with my Garmin forerunner 235 on 2017) :

I went up and down steps several times and the elevation curve should have been the same each time.

Moreover, the total of elevation should have been around 600 meters and Marq Athlete indicates 1485meters !!

    2) With an automatic calibration using DEM, still the same problem with some holes :

The run was "flat" and I have 909 meters of elevation with my Marq Athlete.

What is the problem with this Watch ?
Should I use the Garmin 235 instead of the Marq Athlete ?
