Sunrise / Sunset Graphic. Suggestion.

I love the sunrise sunset features of the Instinct. I would particularly love to use the graphic in the top right window but wouldn't it work better if the day / night were shaded pie chart sections of a 24hr period ...and the sun icon moved at a constant rate?

Currently the day / night shading is always half the window, so in the winter the sun icon moves quicker through the day section and slower through the night. The sun icon might be close to sunset but we have no way of understanding how close because it moves at a continuing varying rate throughout the seasons.

Pie chart shading would solve this and also give us an appreciation of how the lengths of the day & night are changing throughout the seasons.

I would, instead of turning the horizon into a triangle, suggest that the graphic raises and lowers the horizon based on the time of year (because that is also roughly what happens in real life).

Excellent recommendation. Thought about this before, but just, as Ties mentioned, with a change in virtual display height of the horizon. Especially for those living at higher latitudes this would indeed…

I like that as well, nice graphic! Additionally, one could more accurately determine the current orientation (north, south). Here (above the arctic circle) it would make even more sense.

Excellent recommendation. Thought about this before, but just, as Ties mentioned, with a change in virtual display height of the horizon. Especially for those living at higher latitudes this would indeed give a much greater appreciation of daylight time available throughout the year. Fingers crossed for this one, sounds like it could be a fairly straightforward implementation.

Interesting. I'm guessing that might be easier to code, as day/night would just be a vertical percentage of the window height?

Whichever way, I think the critical thing is that the sun moves at a constant rate, so we can at least judge how close it is to sunset/sunrise.

I'd personally love to have it in the window permanently but at the moment I find it mostly useless - disappointing on a watch where everything else is so well thought out

Indeed. The way I imagine it, the sun moves at a constant pace, but because the horizon (the line separating the light from the dark) shifts based on the time of year (hours of daylight in a 24 hour period), the icon would more clearly convey both how long the day/night is and how long it will be until the next sunset/sunrise. Maybe I'll try to draw a mockup later.
