Is Garmin working on the sudden battery drain issues? Or is it expected when new?

Hi all,

On both firmware v16 and v16.43 I've had sudden battery drain during non activity use (no GPS). Last night I went to sleep with around 65% battery and woke up to 5%!!! Within 30 minutes it was down to 1% battery. For information I do not use pulse O2 readings.

I put it on charge before it turned off and took it off charge at around 22%, I restarted it and it was still around 22% - seemed stable after the reboot, I checked a few hours later and it was at 31%! It had gone up further...

I had the exact same issues with my previous Instinct Solar which was replaced due to a faulty bezel and on that I never tried anything other than stable V16.

When I got both watches I updated them to the latest software, then performed a master reset to be on the safe side after the update and slow charged to 100% in attempt to avoid exactly what I am seeing as I did read some reports of this issue on these forums. There was a post on this very forum yesterday but it appears to have been deleted???

What's going on? It seems really unstable. Is this issue to be expected when the watch is within its first couple of weeks? In both cases the watch already had a couple of days and nights of normal use.

  • One other thought, since you are on the Beta, if the Beta software itself caused your watch to go sideways with your battery, keep in mind the Beta software folder you downloaded, also has the older last official software release you can rollback to.

As i‘am alteady told you, i am on 16.00.

The watch came brand new from the factory with 16.10. Unfortunately, it is not possible for me to update to the 16.10, because Garmin does not release this version via express. We had already discussed this. Still, I don't have to understand why a firmware is installed at the factory that doesn't officially exist.

But anyway, you can twist and turn it as you want. Whether 16.00 or 16.41 or 16.43. the problem remains.
Since I have experience since 2016 with fenix 3HR, fenix 5x, fenix 6x, tactix delta, fenix 6s Pro, Vivoactive HR, I know how to install beta FW, and that you can go back to the last official version. Just unfortunately not to 16.10
This dramatic battery consumption I had so far with any of the above  watches.

  • Thanks bluefish, it's what I was going to say.

Happened on stable too. I updated to that to test if the changing of power mode bug during activities was fixed or if multiple notifications worked any better than the dumb way they do now. It doesn't fix any of them nor does it seem to fix this crazy drain issue.

However if it's a one off when a watch is new or recently reset I'd understand more. As it is currently I haven't owned one of these watches for more than a 3-4 weeks yet.

  • I apologize for my confusion. Your posts are mixing multiple products into them, running Beta and emailing the Beta team but not running Beta.
